Title: Oklahoma Riders
Post by: Tangerine Dream on May 11, 2008, 04:25:20 AM
I've asked Statler to start a club for us here on the DMF, but in the meantime I thought this would be a good place for us to meet and organize rides.  I thought it important since everyone is getting banned on the DML and I don't visit it anymore anyway.  So, let's ride  [thumbsup]

P.S.  Who all has migrated here so far?  Post up and tell us what your old DML moniker was so we can recognize you  8)

I'm in Tulsa and wouldn't mind an Okie Club here on DMF.  I too migrated from the old board.

where are you guys all located? I'm only 10 minutes south of the border out near Lawton (i'm in Wichita Falls). the Texas guys in DFW are a little too far for me to meet with, but if any of you guys are in the west side of OK, I wouldn't mind riding up to hit some roads with you guys.

I, too, have migrated from the Ducati Monster List. Would like to ride with other Ducati riders in central Oklahoma. I'm in Edmond, am retired, and can ride pretty much anytime (though I'm 55 years old, a relatively new rider, and not very fast). I used the ID "turnera" on the DML and am using the same one here. I have a 2006 S2R1000. (Also have 5 other sport bikes, a Harley, and a Triumph T100 Bonneville.

I really am in OKC - lol - we ride down to Mt Scott and the wildlife reserve several times each year.  Eureka Springs when I can make it and just cruising around the city when the mood strikes.  Oh yeah - rode AMTRAK with Tangerine Dream down to the Cycle World show last year.

Hey Factorplayer!  I don't think we've ever spoken, but I've heard Steve mention you many times (all good). On that note, Steve's around. He's selling Ducs here at the shop in OKC now. So he doesn't get as much free time as he used to.  Are you in OKC?  For some reason I'm thinking you're in Florida. Is that right? Either way, glad you're here. You're welcome to ride anytime  [moto]

Count Desmo! What's up brother? ;D  I look forward to your trip to Tulsa. Steve's been talking about a ride up that direction for a couple of weeks now. Just let us know when and we'll make a plan.  [thumbsup]

Turnera, I can't wait to see your garage  8)  Welcome. We try to post up here whenever we are going on a Saturday or Sunday, but a few of us just call each other all the time on the last minute stuff. Gammy and I just got back from a two hour romp around town.  [evil]

Le Pirate, welcome. Most of us are located here in the OKC metro area. But we make the run to Mt. Scott almost once a month it seems like. We would love to have you join us  :)

Massinova, welcome.  As you can see, we are trying to get up your direction sometime soon. Watch the board and we'll give you as much notice as possible.

Nak3d696, sorry we missed you on Sunday  :'(, Did you take delivery of the new Monster yet?  Post up pics and your impressions so far please  ;D

Hey Bill!  How you been?  I see Rodney all the time, but have not got to ride with him in some time.  Tell all the boys hello for me and hope to see you guys soon. [beer]

WOW........Trent said there had been some activity, but I had no idea. ;D

Looks like everyone has made it over in good shape, and as for myself well........the Dealership keeps me hopping pretty much all day everyday except for Sundays. [roll]  Then its a compromise between my time and time with the girlfriend and/or my Daughter.

I'm not complaining though, life has been pretty good lately.  Just wish I had more time to ride and or hang  with my friends and fellow Ducatisti aside from selling the bikes. :-[

Think I'll be hitting Randy up for two days off a week as opposed to one. [laugh]

Any new riders in the area can always come by the shop.  I'm there most of the time.  Trent and Marcie have been wonderful in coordinating the few groop rides we've been able to get togeather. ;D  Lord knows I've given as many new Ducatisti his number as I have mine.......Sorry Bro. [laugh] [cheeky]

Factorplayer when are you going to get up for a ride sometime, or better yet if you could put a few of us up for a night a weekend trip to ride down in the Beautiful Texas Hill country could be an Awesome shin ding. [thumbsup]   Just need about a month in advance to plan it right and get the biggest rider turnout. [moto]

BTW;  Anyone other than myself, and possibly Count Desmo planning on attending "DiR" Ducati in the Rockies this year??? :-\

The what?  Sounds like it would be fun going through the Rockies.  Depending on when and how long it is, I might consider going.  I love vacation, I just hate using my vacation time!  :'(

Ciao Markus. :)

It's basicly a three to four day weekend in mid August.   Awesome Roads (Think Switzerland in the U.S.) [thumbsup] , and even better people! [moto] [moto] [moto]

Just be sure to take some rain gear, the mountains make their own weather and periodic showers are normal that time of year.

Trent and I have talked about it with his neighbor with the big bike hauling motorcoach.  With as few as Six of us it could be a very plush and fairly inexpensive weekend you'll be telling your friends about for years to come. ;D

Hi Hank,  you can meet us at Spinozi's at noon Sat. and we will probably make plans for a Sunday ride then.  There are usually 5 or 6 in the group I ride with - 4 monsters some assorted Aprilias/KTMs/MVs/Triumphs a A Kawaski and a H*nda(sorry Curtis).  Most of us have gray hair so if that makes a difference...

Hey Shadowchaser and/or FactorPlayer,

I've done three tours in the Texas Hill Country in the last two years. I still have some of my route maps, and some thoughts on what's fun down there and what's not. I even have my book of maps from the Triumph RAT Raid down there last year (Triumph USA sponsors rides for Triumph owners).  Might be best to use Kerrville as a base for a "hub and spoke" series of rides. There is a hotel/motel there, Inn of the Hills, that caters to motorcycle riders. The group rate coordinator there is a young lady that rides . . . aggressively! She's from southern California and has ridden all the canyon roads out there plus has done some of the riding schools at Laguna Seca. She rides a GSX-R750. She's a great source for Texas Hill Country ride routes and motorcycle shops. Would be glad to help in coordinating  a club ride down there.

We rode up to the Rockhouse for breakfast.  After we got there some cruiser types pulled in and told us there had been a bad wreck on Rt. 66 - a pickup had pulled out in front of a "crotch rocket" and it was bad.  prayers and I hope the best for the guy.  The S4Rs was singing a beautiful song in top gear this morning.

There's nothing wrong with that route. But it should not take you too long. You could make it in 3 hours or less even if you stopped every 30 minutes. A lot of straight road.

It depends on what your goal is, but there are other routes you could take that will offer more twists and turns if that's what you're looking for. I will have to look up the roads as I don't know the names of most of them. Just know them by memory. Either way, give us a shout when you get to town. [beer]

Great ride yesterday!  TurnerA, myself, and a buddy (John) met in Norman at 9:30 and headed out after a cup  [coffee]  We took the long twisty way through town to the west side and caught 152 out through Mustang. After a brief stop to discuss what looked like rain ahead, we continued on and had a great ride all the way down to Mt. Scott and Meers for a cheeseburger. We rode throught the game reserve and stopped at the visitor's center to check it out. It was at that time that I talked to Marci (my wife who is nine months pregnant). She said she was on the way to the hospital  :o

So I told guys I would talk to them later and lit out  [evil]  I didn't see them again after the first curve, and made record time to the hospital.  I was nervous the whole time that I was going to miss the event, but having fun at the same time  ;D

Turns out we had a false alarm and all is well. I'll keep you guys informed when the new addition arrives.

Good to see you again Alan :)  You're gonna have to make more of these rides in the future  [moto]  You are a most welcome addition to our regular group  [thumbsup]

I'm happy to anounce the birth of our baby girl, Trinity.  She was born Tues. morning and I got both she and mother home on Friday. It's been a great experience and what a surprise!  I just knew I was going to have another boy  ;)  Thanks so much for all of your calls, texts, and well wishes. I go back to work this week and will be pretty busy in the coming months. The only ride I have planned in the near future is on July 5th in the morning. My brother is coming to town and we just plan on tooling around town a bit (my brother is riding my bike and Ryan is letting me borow his Hypermotard  8)).  Anyone interested?

Just a few suggestions; Head west on 51 from Stillwater, head south on Coyle Rd after 10 miles or so.  That will take you to 33. Take that west through Guthrie to 74 south. Follow 74 into OKC. Once in the City, catch I44 west and follow it to the Newcastle exit just southwest of the City. Go through town and follow 62 all the way to Chickasha. You can catch 81 south into Duncan from there. [thumbsup]

Be sure to post some pics  [moto]

TD-I finally figured out why my new rear brake pads didn't work--I have an ST2 caliper.  WTF!  Guess they just grabbed something from the parts bin or the previous owner switched it out.  Good thing I figured this out, I was about to hack into the pads I had to make them fit.  Hope we'll get another chance to ride again soon.

*edit* Oh her aunt.  Not so bad.  I would have to smack you if you let Marcie get a 696.  I need to stop reading the internets when ive been drinking
Also, My bike might be out of business for a bit.  I decided to do a bit of maintenance (new sprockets/chain/oil) and I've pulled off the side cases so I could check everything.  Still waiting on a few parts  [cheeky]

not sure about the 696 comments, but i know it has more HP than my old M900 and isn't so wheelie happy. But i'm sure some sprocket changes might change that.

I'm new to the forum, just found it from the old site you all were at. picked up my white 696 last week. Live in Lawton (living a relative term in this town) but will be PCSing soon to Europe (planning to anyway).

I'm just south of you, acroose the boarder. I'm not really an OK rider, but it's the closest group for me I think. Plus, I think OKC might be the closest dealer to me now

Title: Re: Oklahoma Riders
Post by: Raux on July 11, 2008, 01:08:15 PM
I understand about the subframe, but look at it this way, it makes the bike much more brutish, bull dog like since the subframe tends to blend in to the bike and the main frame has all the heft.

I like the more forward look of the bike and it feels that way too. I didn't like my M900 City cause i always felt the front was too light.

WF- yeah that's only 30 min or so from here. I don't think there's another Duc closer than that to me. But if anyone knows of anyone in Lawton that enjoys Italian tastes let me know.

I had looked at the OKC dealer (did ride their demo, love the CF termi) but they didnt have a bike right then that wasn't sold so I went to Dallas. I sat looking backwards while my friend drove his truck (tough 3 1/2 hrs). Hit rain and had a panic attack, but dried her off when i got it home.

No pics yet, had to wait for my new helmet (old blue was a bit trashed), but i'm sure i can convince the wife to take a few tomorrow.

Check for battery shops in your area, they may carry a battery for your Monster.

With a new baby in the house, I take it when I can get it  ;D

Le Pirate, Hank is right. There should be a shop in Lawton that carries a battery for your bike. If not, Shadow Chaser does work at the Duc shop in OKC. There is only one. There number is 405 943 2691.  A new battery is about $150

Call if you decide to come up and I'll give you directions. It's just off I-40 but not easy to find if you don't know where you're going. 405 641 1749

Ok, now who's in for tomorow morning boys (and girls)  [moto]

Post by: Raux on July 25, 2008, 01:42:51 PM
I'm heading to the OKC shop in the morning. (in the car, with the family) Hopefully i can find some CF parts  ;D
If you're coming from Lawton (which I am)
Take I44 exit I40 west. take first exit, turn right, turn right at next light. go down to Hudiberg Circle. Go to the end of the road and you are acutally at the back of the building. It's on the front of the building facing the highway. You can see it from I40 right after the water park.

In lawton we have the Yamaha shop on cache rd. the Kawasaki closed down. and the Harley shop is right off gore and I44.

I got my battery from batteries plus.  I probably didn't even spend $50 on mine
http://www.batteriesplus.com/
There's one in OKC, at I-240 and Sante Fe.
And the directions to the shop sound about right  ;D

As for tomorrow: Damn you Trent!  Have some extra fun for me   :'(

yeah was up there this morning and heard from shadowchaser you were there.

BTW all, shadowchaser is great. very cordial and informative, answered all my questions and was patient even for this question freak.

In the end I picked up the 14T sprocket after talking to him. John in parts is also great.

All in all, i wish they would have had the bike i wanted the day i had gone there a month ago, (had the check in my pocket!) but i couldn't wait so I went to Dallas.

Plan on my 600 service in OKC soon.

It was a great ride on Sat.  [moto]  My buddy John and I left about 8:30 and went up through Guthrie where we took in some of the sites of the old downtown district. It was really hopping that morning. We headed over to the Masonic Temple that was formerly the State Capitol of Oklahoma.

We then headed out of town on 33 and then took Coyle Rd up to 51.  A few good curves inbetween  [evil]  We got into Stillwater (God's country) home of the Oklahoma State Cowboys about 10:30 and took the opportunity to look around campus and especially to check the progress of the new football stadium  [thumbsup]

After that we headed over to Joe's for a Fowl Thang and some cold iced tea.  It hit the spot as the temp was rising fast.  We did a little shopping at Chris's University Spirit and the Wooden Nickel before the trip back.  They were nice enough to ship everything to us so we wouldn't have to transport the goods on the bikes.  [clap]

Hope to see some of you there next time  [beer]

I know it's kinda early, but anyone up for making the Talimena run the last week of October?

I havn't decided exactly how to do it yet. I'm thinking about staying at the farm and taking out from there each day. But I'm also thinking about packing a bag and just making a trip through some of the roads in AR as well. We could find some cheap motels and just ride all day  [moto]
