Title: 1/25/2009 AMS-A Ride!
Post by: Samsonite on January 16, 2009, 12:22:09 PM
This is an excellent ride. Lots of curves, lots of open country. You owe it to yourself to do this run!

AMS-A Ride (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=FM-917&daddr=Unknown+road+to:FM-916+to:FM-916%2FTX-171+to:FM-1192%2FFM-4+to:TX-377+to:TX-171+to:Farm-To-Market+Rd+917%2FFM-917%2FN+Main+St+to:32.509952,-97.173482&hl=en&geocode=FSYQ8AEdkEA1-g%3BFcRz8AEdAEQ2-g%3BFU_i7AEdzpw3-g%3BFcQR7AEdiJAz-g%3BFcAn7gEd3aov-g%3BFZI77wEdOMQs-g%3BFTRm8AEdtnsu-g%3BFcge7wEdSNkv-g%3B&mra=mi&mrcr=6&mrsp=8&sz=17&via=4&sll=32.509925,-97.173514&sspn=0.006831,0.009613&ie=UTF8&ll=32.366043,-97.357407&spn=0.437877,0.615234&z=11)

917 should be fine on a Sunday as they are working on the shoulders in some places and the new blacktop they put down is great.

Also, I'll ride that stretch on the way there and check it out. [moto]

Please weather, be good :)

The 917 stretch between AMS and Godley was pretty decent when we were through there a couple weeks ago.  I'd forgotten what a nice curvy road that is, although I don't recall the pavement quality.

They should have just finished repaving.  [thumbsup]  And that road is awesome for bikes!!! My office is in Godley.

I am certain there is a fine smooth black section as you leave 35W, and the potholes are gone too on the rest.

I may ride that on Sunday towards Warehome.

You may know better: are they just finishing up shoulder work on 917?

Tentative "yes."  Yellow bike is back together but we're having a hell of a time bleeding the front brakes  [bang]  Got Saturday afternoon set aside to hopefully get it sorted.  Can't wait to get it back on the road... just in time for its 18k service...

I don't think the 620 will pull it on this trip  [evil]

I'm leaning from "probable" to "not even close" for this ride tomorrow  :-X   We'll mess with the SBK brakes tonight but I suspect it's going on a trailer somewhere to get fixed soon  >:(  >:(   I noticed when messing with the rim tapes this afternoon that to the two rear axle adjustment spool things on the swing arm were free-spinning on one side and tight as a drum on the chain side   :o   [bang]  WTF?!?!?!?? [bang]   Of everything that was damaged in the garage drop, the right rear swing arm area got off scot free, or so I thought.

Ok, here's the deal, I'll come but will have to stay at the back. I didn't have the tools needed (22mm socket) to tighten up the chain. Looking at the rear sprocket though, there is only only about .125mm rise from the swell to the top of the tooth. Way past time for replacing. So I will be in cruise mode. So, tell me if anyone else wants to hang back?

Hope it's not too late for this posting

If there's any trouble today and you need a truck with a ramp and there's no one closer, call me.

Mineola is about 80 miles due East of Dallas, so it'll take a bit of time to reach whereever the problem would be; but I'll come if anyone needs me.

Sorry I just thought of this; and sorry I can't make the ride today.

The CaffineDude has my number at his PM, and I think Scott has it on his iLifeSupportGadgetThingie.

The CaffineDude has my number at his PM, and I think Scott has it on his iLifeSupportGadgetThingie.

got it  [thumbsup]

Thanks Norris for the offer.

Hope you can make the next ride  [moto]

Great ride and great route  [thumbsup] [moto]

Thanks T for planning and leading, we have to do this route again.  ;D

Nice meeting you John, I hope you can make more rides. Andy, at least that the trooper only wanted to discuss your performance and ask that you not give an encore....   [leo] [evil]

I split off at the 287 north toward town, just in enough time to see T and CDC off to the races toward I20....  :o

Can't wait for the next ride  [moto]

Well, I'm glad the time change pushed the start back. i was having a moment of reality there for a moment. for me personally this was a most enjoyable ride. Thanks Tommy for putting this together and doing a fine job of leading. Really good to see Andy and John (my bad, I was thinking Ashok for some reason) again enjoyed catching up with you guys. CJ and Dan, always enjoy riding with you guys.  ***, really glad to see you on the ST4s again! I'm going guess about you passed me on the straight at around 140-150? Right? he he he..... looked like you were just out for a stroll. It was very cool to see the Honda RC51 that rolled up to the red light at one those dots on the map we passed through.

After I split from the group back to the house, I took off around W 820 with some dude on a new Goldwing on my tail. We entered into the lanes at around 80 or so. Ater I shifted into 4th looked back and he was still on my tailight at 95! So I twisted the right wrist back and grabbed 6th both together still. I looked down at the speedo and saw that he finally backed out around 135. Damn! Those birds can fly! I then looked across the median at some bikes coming into view and noticed a RED ST4s or 1098 staring back at me followed closely by a black SBK of some kind, after that a white 848 and a Gixr. I thought for a moment it might have been Bryant, Brian and RichD. Anybody out that way this afternoon ?

All in all a great day for a final day of riding for the next two or so months. Hmmmm... I wonder if Cyclone might want to keep the battery charged by riding RED for a while? At least that way he could feel like a real Ducatisti. Can't wait till I can ride with you all again. :)

;D Wow Red ! That is very flattering that you would even consider making such an offer !  I hope you can live with a little threadjack when I tell you Red that I saw Willie Nelson last night and he had carpal tunnel repair 6 months ago and he played all the guitar last night - no back up guitar player - and he was unbelievably good & still at the top of his game.  I suspect you will be making this AMS ride pain & numbness free before you know it !  [moto]  [thumbsup]

I didn't know that about Willie. He is surprisingly entertaining isn't he. I mentioned the bike thinking if you rode the bike for a while you'd buy it! :)

Thanks all for a great ride and the chance to meet one of your finer looking troopers,  [leo] :-* , but I guess that bit was my own doing.

John also thanks you all for making him feel so welcome.

I (we) look forward to another adventure soon.

don't race the Wing....they win every time.  It's impressive how good those things are.  My next cruiser will be a Wing  [moto]

Thanks everyone for an awesome ride  [thumbsup] I have to say that 157 to 916 has got to be the best combination of roads in the area.  I highly recommend this ride to all.  Unfortunately I was having issues with the video camera and was only able to get a little bit on 916 and the 2nd half of 917  ???  Oh well, I'll edit it and post it tonight.  *** always a pleasure attempting to keep up with you.  [bacon]

You know there is something about a yellow moto (at least for me)

Nice R6, Cher's 999, and ***'s yellow can really scoot!

The bike was shiney white with chrome along the edges of the fairing. It was a new model. The guy riding had a gray one-piece riding suit with an open face gray helmet with the microphone stuck around front. This all took place right around 1:30ish on the far west side of Ft. Worth going north on 820W. He kept up with me till we hit about 130. I was very impressed at the bike and his riding. But the other Ducs saw us their heads were turned I could tell. Didn't look too long at that speed!  :o

Thing was I wan't racing! I had gotten up on the fwy and just looked back for a second and there he was at 95 looking at me! We stayed like that for a couple more seconds and I thought he wanted to see us go, so......  ;D  we did. I did get the feeling that he could have gone some more though. He just may not have had that confidence to do so. Nor was he geared up to do so. I'm sure he's used to seeing the white stripes go by a little slower.
