Title: The history of Toasty
Post by: Duc Stamp on May 27, 2008, 01:14:33 PM
So, I'm having a lot of trouble searching on the old site.  Does anybody happen to have a link to the thread that first mentioned Toasty?

I thought it was the old thing in Mortal Kombat where the guy popped out and yelled it:

skip ahead to around 94 seconds to get to the good part.

You mentioned older, wiser and faster.

You forgot to mention sexier.

Did you see the mid 80's Volvo of a toaster they've got?

I mean, I appreciate the idea, but at least make it something as aerodynamically sound as your bike.

Oh, wait...

They put all of NMC into one thread. Can't remember the name but Scott R. Nelson started the thread they merged it into and it's something like 8500 pages long...

ya know i was thinking about that this morning... i find it comical.  they REALLY fubared their investment.  and it was a potentially lucrative one!  incomplete business analysis.  arrogant tactics.  hope they learn from their mistakes.

I wonder how much they paid for that site. They have just gone and ruined the whole thing. They should probably start over from scratch at this point.

They are not making money directly off the members, or amount of posts.  As long as the big mego-mart advertisers are paying VS, VS doesn't care about the content of that board.

They (VS) had 2 main choices:

1) leave the DML for the most part the way it was, maybe make a little bit of changes that the community wouldn't be upset by.  Downside is that VS wouldn't make as much $$ in advertising.

2) make the beast with two backs up the DML by putting a shit-load of ads everywhere and making a bunch more $$ than the DML was making before.  Downside is that the community would get pissed and leave, advertising $$ will go down in the future, but advertisers probably entered a contract so $$ should be good for a year or so (my guess at how long the sponsoring contracts are)

As long as VS makes more money the first year than VS paid for the DML, they came out on top, financially.  It costs VS almost nothing to run the DML, a Internet connection, server, a shitty under-paid admin that oversees 10 sites a day  [roll]

*I* think VS sucks sweaty monkey sack because they craped on my favorite website, but it's not that bad of a business plan,  they are making a ton of money.

The Toaster requires cleansing after coming so close to the Capitalist Pigs from VS.
It will be purified with bleach and a double rinse cycle.

It is conceivable that we should not have used as much bleach when washing the Toaster..........
However, we are confident that we can rebuild him

"horns" as in not a good person = bad

"Horns" as in sexy, naughty babe = good

She had the bad horns, (and a bit of the good horns too, but not enough to counter balance the bad horns)

Now the last girl I dated had a bunch of good horns and very little bad horns.  Too bad I make the beast with two backsed that up  :P

Michelle,

I'm just curious, how did you and Chromo end up with toasty again?

He was toaster napped at DIMBY and we we're all wondering who took him.  >:(

Although Ducpainter still refuses to acknowledge that he exists even though I personally handed him to him last year.  [roll]

Same way as everyone else. Little red bastid showed up on her porch and asked if he could sleep on the couch/counter top for a bit.

A lot like that "friend" from college who was "looking for a job."
