Title: Maybe I'm too old?
Post by: CCEMN1 on March 23, 2010, 01:46:04 PM
At 60, maybe I'm just too old, but I'm fascinated, amazed and a little disturbed at how conservative "Motorcyclists" have become!
Must be a whole different world out there? Thank God it hasn't infiltrated MY life yet!  [bang]

I'm pretty sure few of us here would be considered 'conservative'.  However, the folks who keep the water in this pool would like us to conduct ourselves with a degree of decorum.  The vast majority respect that.  Those that don't can, I'm sure, find other places more to their tastes.

Edit   I'm not old yet, I'm only 52

I'm going to be 61 soon and I certainly don't consider myself "conservative " as far as my riding goes if that is what you were referring to?

The past 2 years I've been working on my Road Racing skills on my !098-R .

If you are meaning something more cerebral ...then never mind.

I take it this is a comment on this particular forum and its "G" rating.    It's just an internet forum.   There are lots of forums that are full of internet bullies, porn, etc.       We chose to make this one different, but that doesn't mean we are of any certain attitude in our personal lives...it means this forum model is done on purpose and that's about it.

This issue has come up again a lot recently.

We even have links to other places less 'conservative' you might find more comforting to you.

ride with an admin and have a drink after.   I think you'll find we're a bit backwards from the usual internet personas...we're assholes in person and overly polite online.

At the risk of coming off like a Troll…You see, THIS is the problem I have! I'm sure there are many morons who would find this picture, or more accurately, it's text offensive. It is certainly not "G Rated" as another member stated is a necessity here!
Yet my GIF of a girls face is????
More than that, it's a combination of my inability to follow rules (Especially foolish ones!) and my disdain for hypocrisy that prompts me to open my mouth. Another thing fat, lazy Americans don’t seem to do much of anymore!

is yours the one of the girls face moving towards and away from the camera?

if so i don't see how you can not undertstand that might be offensive. the first thing i thought of is she's getting railed from behind. esp with the expression she had on her face.

if that's not the gif then nevermind.

CCEMN1,

well, in that case all I can say is sorry you don't like how this privately owned place is run.    Most of us will ride hard with you, drink hard with you, lend a hand for almost anything that is ever needed, and generally be a pretty cohesive group.   It's certainly not for everyone, but we're pretty happy with how the moto-content versus bullshit-content ratio plays out.

Hope you'll take it with the importance it deserves (absolutely none...and a lot...depending on the people you've met here), and hang out regardless.

I think you just don't understand the "foolish" guidelines the admin created for this place.  And, if you really believe your .gif was just a girls face, than maybe you haven't ever seen what it was depicting  ;D

It is simple - if I am at work or at home, I don't want to explain "what was that pic of?" to either a coworker, or my 3 year old daughter.

Yeah, I get it now, a girl's face is offensive. Yeah, that's the ticket!

Think of this "community" as a small town. Over the years I have lived in this small town (11+ now) we have had weddings, divorces, deaths, births, promotions, firings, triumph, defeat, and everything in between, including a few problems. These problems led to town meetings (really long threads), good people moving out, and good and bad people being evicted. Finally our Town council took note of all the problems, coupled with peoples opinions and made a few rules to make the place run smoother for the majority. The community suffered though a land grab (VS) and actually packed up and moved. The Council took their time and money to provide a new Town for our community to move to. This Town has many of the same rules along with a few new ones to protect us from being taken over again.

In other words we have lots and lots of history and the Council has lots of experience dealing with our community.

Now you show up and three whole months into it you are b!tching about being asked to put up a new picture in your yard. Seriously?

If you want to be a 1%'r you logged on to the wrong forum. Get along or move along. You are entirely free to choose.

Nate, Why is it I'm the only one being persecuted and accused here? What about, " if you really believe your .gif was just a girls face, than maybe you haven't ever seen what it was depicting" ?? Is it that I have to sit and be quiet while others are allowed to take jabs at me?
I think I'll take your advice! I'm already on several other Duc forums and I really don't see much future in communicating in a place where people are this uptight. There is rarely any information of value to be found amongst such types. Especially when there is also no sense of humor! Kind of like wanting to vacation in Fallujah!

I've never been one to avoid trouble. In most cases, I'm the first one to jump in with both feet!

Here's a grand idea for the non-trouble-avoider: Instead of starting a thread whining that you are being oppressed, how about you act however you want to and then man up and accept the consequences. There are consequences to your actions. You knew that right? You don't have to like it. You don't have to give a make the beast with two backs. No one is asking you to. Just be who you are. If that means that you don't get to log in to some website where the people are all just uptight sticks in the mud, well, what would that matter to a rugged individualist non-trouble-avoider such as yourself.

Go ahead, jump in with both feet.

+1. Yup, this here is the point.

CCEMN1, I personally never had any issue with your moving girl avatar..... but.... allow me to tell you a story.... One day I found myself viewing this site whilst visiting a McDonald's...um..... "restaurant".... and there was a post from you....no big deal, i didnt give it a second thought.... BUT... the young mother who walked past me (and had obviously glanced at my monitor) concluded that I was a dirty old porn-watching pervert.... coz she didnt see the words, the real content.  She only saw a 1" woman getting shafted from behind.  This my firend is why we need to keep ourselves "nice".  Nothin' to do with personal conservatism.  I miss kopfjaeger's fine collection of avatars but he's moved on, maybe you could do so too, huh?

I don't think it is an age issue...I am 59 and I think it is simply how you metabolize what you see....which of course is a result of (first-off) what you CHOOSE to see.

What IS a sign of atrophied thinking commonly associated with those of advanced years,,, is the use of blanket generalizations and opinions that are grounded in perceptions rather than facts..... and a resultant tendency to take the world's changes as personal affronts if they are not in line with your personal beliefs

If I were to get a PM from a Flounder here telling me to trim it back a notch or 5... I would weigh the nature and validity of the request, determine if the request is within my personal sense of balance regarding the value I get from being here and I would act accordingly

Everyone has their own terms and conditions including Hosts who grant entry into their venues....it is their right

There's a good chance I could get away with a warning if I pissed on the peanut shelled floor in a seedy bar downtown (yes I have)...

and there is an assurance I will be roughly escorted out if I try to do the same in the deep pile at the Rainbow Grill in Rock Center (no not for pissing,, but I have been thrown out of there)

Now if the Flounders insisted that I put on Nike sneakers and wear a purple shroud and pledge my undying obeisance to ZUL at the end of each posting...I might elect to move on

Have social behavioral norms changed??? .....meh..... somewhat...we are pretty fancy about ourselves in America these days....however on the other side of the planet folks still express their beliefs with machete's....this place falls comfortably in-between for me

Humanity is a big tent and there is plenty of room for folks to gather of like-minds....I don't complain much anymore...I just move-on if I think things are stale or brittle

No...

you don't.

but if you continue to make such a big deal over such a small matter this will escalate to one of those situations where

people will leave and others will be evicted as hbliam pointed out.

I think it sucks that our society, along with corporate america, has the pole shoved so far up their collective ass.

I couldn't work there, and don't.

But many of the people here do, so we as adults accept what that brings.

Remember...we're adults now, and the fist shaking really is pretty unattractive from us blue hairs.

So what you are trying to tell us is that all motorcyclists need to be hairy-chested, bigoted, closed-minded "individualists". Are you not being closed-minded when you say that motorcyclists should only be a specific way? What if I want to share my hobby with someone I love, who happens to be a little more straight laced than I? I'll steer 'em here, because other than Carlos' incessant poop-talk  [cheeky] , I can count on these guys and gals to maintain a sense of decorum. The Grandpa Simpson and Monty Python bits are hilarious!

You would think that by 60 a guy would have developed a bit of decorum and sense of place.  Or at least not get all butt hurt because he can't represent himself with a soft porn avatar.  I don't think you're too old.  You're not acting old enough.

Being an individualist doesn't mean that I have to disregard and disrespect those who disagree with me.  Nor does it require me to get in their face with porn.

It seems to be a philosophy that states that everyone who's not an individualist sucks, especially if you not an individualist exactly like me.  (cue a "Life of Brian" bit here)

It's a philosophy I was exposed to far too much in the '70s by reading way too many Easyriders magazines.

It's also a philosophy that, taken to it's logical conclusion, would dictate that if one were truely an individualistic biker/motorcyclist one would never be caught dead on the "interwebs".  One would be too busy living the righteous freewheeling lifestyle of the open road, wind in the hair, bugs in the teeth that only a true non conformist biker can understand.

Me?  I like this place just fine.  I tip my hat to the flounders/administrators!   [beer]

Hey I don't hold it against the guy.

He's 60 and in Florida. Hanging out in god's waiting room must be stressful.

Maybe he doesn't have a lawn to yell at the kids to get off of, so he came on here.

Given that 90% of the rest of his life is probably driving to the old country buffet with his blinker on, and shooing alligators out of his birdbath, I figure we can give him a little tolerance.

I hope he finds his place on the internet, so he can have a little peace before a hurricane blows his rathole apartment over, because let's face it-Florida sucks.

 [laugh]

Ah, dude, that's harsh.

Funny as hell, but harsh.   [laugh]

Riding is a pursuit, a hobby, a passion and a few other things....

but it comes up short as a personality deficit back-filler...

it is what I do ....it is not who I am

most people look at me and think I drive a Geo Metro...that's fine...

what people think of me is none of my business anyway

way to tell the entire story behind that avatar.

no mention that it was an animated gif, what the motion was, and what the facial expression was.

if you want to get bent out of shape and pregnant dog at least let people know the whole story.

and i thought you were done with this forum. or do you just want to come back to see how much of a stir you caused and see that people are still getting on your shit about it

and for the record, i work in coporate america. the wrong person seeing that avatar could have gotten me in trouble as all they would have seen is the facial expression of a girl getting plowed from behind. you're old enough to be able to grasp the concept of innappropriate visuals.

Holy shit. I just realized something. The dude was right, he IS too old. All of this whining is equivalent to some codger on a porch somewhere telling those punk kids how he had it so hard. 10 mile walk to school bare foot in the snow up hill both ways, etc. You see, in his old mind he has to remember the past as actually being exciting. Of course there are people his age that don't have to exaggerate this way. Those people actually lived life, took risks, faced hardships and have good stories to tell. I think this dude is some spoiled middle class kid whose papa bought him his first bike and after so many years he has deluded himself into thinking that he is big bad biker man. He makes the same mistake that a lot faux badasses make, he mistakes being a prick for being self confident, that particular self confidence that comes only through experience.

If you want to talk about badass bikers the Hell's Angels come to the top of everyone's mind. I've only even met two of them, and got to sit and drink with the one guy in an airport bar for several hours. But they were super nice guys. Truly gentlemen to the people around them. No reason not to be. They seemed to know instinctively that just spouting off and being a cock (a la our friend here) would be in violation on the most basic tough guy rule:

If you have to tell people you're a badass, you're probably not.

If they are in a motorcycle "club" maybe but if they are in a motorcycle gang otherwise known as an OMG or outlaw motorcycle gang then I don't care how nice you think they are, in the end they are just criminals. Murdering, drug dealing, raping criminal scum.

Please, lets not threadjack this into a OMG's are good guys thread.

So.....what you're saying there is that if you happen to be a member of an OMG, you're automatically guilty by association.  ;) Sort of a dangerous line of thought.....

However, I never said that all OMG types are good guys, because that's certainly not the case.

So.....what you're saying there is that if you happen to be a member of an OMG, you're automatically guilty by association.  ;) Sort of a dangerous line of thought.....

However, I never said that all OMG types are good guys, because that's certainly not the case.

Yes, absolutely. There isn't a bronze or silver membership level in OMG's. You commit crimes to get in and commit crimes to stay in. No OMG members are "good" guys.

Guilt by association?  I would say no.  I would say guilt by definition.  The "O" in "OMG" does stand for outlaw, outlaws break the law, and breaking the law makes one guilty (presumption of innocence in the courts does not change that fact).  It's what the words mean.

Now, it's one thing to argue that OMG members are cool, but it makes no sense to argue that they aren't outlaws.

Okay, I couldn't help myself.

I PM'd Chis Capp.  I had some questions based on things I read at his blog.  He replied twice.  The second reply was a post script.

I post it verbatim here under his direction:

"PS. I forwarded the comment about Sonny Barger hawking Japanese blue jeans to Sonny, who I have interviewed and consider a friend. It was probably a mistake, because those guys take disrespecting them to a whole ‘nother level, but you may want to warn the poor stupid bastard!"

So, bobspapa, you've been ratted out to the Hells Angels.  Make of it what you will.  Maybe you can help your case if you buy a few pairs of "Self Edge" jeans; I don't know.

(What does Self Edge mean?)

Walmart $8 made in China specials.    Because no matter what I buy, they are going to start smelling like machine tool coolant the first time I wear them to work, and that will stick with them until I throw them away.     My old lady bought me a pair of 501s that we took back because they were $46.

What's interesting in his writing is how he likes to glorify himself as an enlightened soul spouting the "One Human Family" doctrine that we are ALL equal and good, but then he bashes everyone he disagrees with as being "morons".  Then he talks about how people are a cancer on the planet.

Then there's his claim that he hates being an American because Americans are stupid morons, and he wants to leave the country altogether.

Warning: If you check out his blog, do not, I repeat DO NOT, EVER, click on the photo of that chick from Abu Ghraib at the bottom of his post with the title "Go make the beast with two backs yourself, or anyone else".  Remember, DO NOT CLICK ON THAT PHOTO (nsfw).

more to be pitied than censured

just another of God's creatures lost in life's wardrobe room looking for his identity

fractured and fragmented desperate for power rather than relevance

at once, both magnanimous and vindictively petty...incoherent conflicted world view

seeks strength in numbers, marching in line in the uniform that will never really "fix" him

getting older now and more embittered because his uniform and his formula became anachronistic

his iconography of power is dismissed out of hand (removal of head-job avatar)

self-definition only works if it is accomplished in conjunction with self-discovery

toss a prayer his way that he doesn't wake up some morning and see himself for what he really is...or isn't

it is too late for him

G'Day Grown-ups.  One guy's juvenile and disproportional response to a reasonable request is a reminder that rational human stability is a little fragile amongst some of our fellow beings - it would be laughable if it wasnt just a little disturbing.

And those here who have laughed, mocked and pilloried - I understand, I smirk too, but isnt it enough already?  We're in danger of becoming no better than the OP (whom I do not defend for a moment). So how about we show some self-respect, shake our collective heads and just let the guy go to be bitter and twisted without stooping down to his lowly level?

I have an opinion.  I voiced it.  You have an opinion and have voiced it also.  You may of course continue to voice it as frequently and often as you wish  :).  My point is simply this:  The OP is a 60 year old adult.  If, after having experienced the reactions of others around him for the last six decades, he has not yet realised for himself that he is seen as a dick-head I doubt that he's gonna take your or my word for it either.  However often its repeated.  But do carry on if you wish  [thumbsup]

Yeah, fair enough.  Only I have two quibbles.  One, this thread has ceased to include that rugged individualist guy, so any discussion here does not include him, let alone directed at him.  Two, while he is 60 years old, he's not an adult.

Rest your case? You're not Matlock, no matter how much you watch him, grandpa.

In case you haven't noticed, you're talking about how things are so different from when you were young. It's a sign you haven't been current in about three decades.

And yet your vanity won't let you look away.  I thought rugged individualists weren't vain. Shows what I know. At least we are just making random snarky comments now and again and not actually spending time blogging about it as though this was 1997 and anyone gives a shit about anything you whine about.

And just in case this is the one day this month you let reality seep into your otherwise delusion filled little world, we've ended up with 14 pages in thread because 1) we're bored and you're an easy target and 2) you are loser of such epic proportions that watching you act the tough guy is just make the beast with two backsing hilarious. Christ, I've been on this board for quite a few years now and I've seen 14 pages written about everything from racing to poop. So don't think yourself too special sweetheart

But keep grasping at relevance old man. You'll be dead soon. And quickly forgotten. All that may linger will be the pregnant dogy blogs. The unfortunate soul who accidentally stumbles across your drivel after your demise will be left to wonder who the crabby queen in the pink shirt is. And they will not care.

Sorry you are old and bitter.

I've been following your blog.  When do we get the next installment about how you hate Americans, how chicks dig you, and about how cool you were in the '60s?

How did your age play a role in this episode?

And I only ask as you are starting to get older.

Is your fiber intake adequate to keep the pipes clean?

I'm sure someone on this board is older and has experienced something similar in his/her lifetime.

I wonder who would fit that demographic?

make the beast with two backs me with a banjo, i'm late to the party!

i can't believe i've missed out on this.

i, for one, got some odd looks when I took a break from doing actual work down at the courthouse to play on my favorite internet forum. clearly, my favorite forum has always been acces/mods, followed by general and lately tech - it is in these forums that i expect to find things about bike parts, bikes, and mechanical theory... not an image of some woman gettin' railed in the poopchute.

so, i quite thank those that put 'work-safe' rules on the forum. i really like this place, and i like to contribute throughout the day. i can look at pornesque things on so many other websites that I could never get through them all. Kinda nice when I'm not assaulted by it here.

in other news, this may be the worst blog I've ever read: http://sfurbanmoto.com/blogdetail.cfm?r=5. (http://sfurbanmoto.com/blogdetail.cfm?r=5.) Mine is bad, but by no measure could its content be worse than that one. Even if I did mistype a bit about trail/offset. oops. short on coffee day, i suppose.

but really, that's an awful blog. old people, all of you old people, should spend more time doing things you enjoy besides complaining in the short few years you have left before you fall asleep and plow your station wagon through the Denny's.

Too bad you don't hang out in bars...

edit...

maybe you should be a television comedian...

I'm sure you're funnier than most of the guys on the comedy channel.

I checked out his open to the public Facebook page.  I was shocked, SHOCKED! to see all the references to his, ah, thingie.  I used to hang out with a lot of guys who also had a fixation on talking about the size of thier tools; we were 6th graders.

Apparently though, he's had one of his "Avatar Meltdowns" at Facebook and an Aprilia Forum.
My cat (Wingnut Williams) just sent him a message.

So he loves to go from bike site to bike site...evidently has been doing it for years it seems

pushing the edge to provoke contrived controversy

so he can pull out his handy soapbox and recite his pre-fabricated dreary worldview

a worldview which consists of little more than a shit stew melange of misogyny and gender objectification and dysmorphic penile narcissism...all thinly masked under the banner of sexual liberation

I guess the only possible question of passing interest about this pedestrian-grade psychologically and emotionally castrated garden slug of a sub-human is,,,, which parent worked him over the most?

and then left him behind....lost and directionless...flouncing about here and there...

baiting the management

and indeed, he just one more master baiter

he almost makes Piller seem interesting

I was about 15 when I saw Tommy at the theater during its initial release.  It took about four years before I had the presence of mind to say, "The Emperor has not clothes!"

Okay, back on topic now:

The fact that I didn't like Tommy is a sign that I'm a repressed uptight moron subjected to "The Man" and worse still, I am no "real" motorcyclist at all because in some paradoxical way I lost my individuality by finally rejecting the hype about this film.

Hey, we're up to 20 pages now.
pa·thet·ic
Show Spelled[puh-thet-ik]
–adjective
1.
causing or evoking pity, sympathetic sadness, sorrow, etc.; pitiful; pitiable: a pathetic letter; a pathetic sight.
2.
affecting or moving the feelings.
3.
pertaining to or caused by the feelings.
4.
miserably or contemptibly inadequate: In return for our investment we get a pathetic three percent interest.

Yeah, that’s what happens with people who have no life; they obsess over things like this. How are things at the CYO dance anyway?
I had failed to realize that this was a Squid site for teenagers who ride Ducatis. I was hoping for people a little more enlightened (And a little higher up the food chain!), instead of ignoramuses who think motorcycling is doing wheelies & making noise, but what can you expect from a country who elected Dubya Bush TWICE?!
Most here can only dream about a life like mine, but no need to elaborate, because a simple fact of life is; everyone gets exactly what they deserve! Something that I’m sure eludes most here!
So, go back to your cubicles now, keep believing I’M the one who is “old”, and worry about someone seeing “dirty pictures” on your monitors!
There, this should be good for another 40 pages, go to town!

Hey now, that's simply not fair.  We can't all be living alone with a gay bull dog named Daisy.  Nor can we spend our days wearing pink wife-beaters and bilateral pirate hoop earings while posting self-recorded "rap" videos about how large our penises are (never mind the fact that you've posted photographic evidence to contradict that claim).

On a serious note Chris, your emotional development was halted around the age of 12.  Seriously, this is true.  Your explicit and published obsession with your penis is rivaled only by those boys who've just dropped a pair, sprouted a hair, and discovered what an erection is for.  It's one thing to carry on like you do up to the age of, say, 18 or 19.  But dude, you're 60!

Your rational faculties are non-existant.  Your writing demonstrates a total ignorance of rational middle terms and rhetorical transitional devices.

You are a hate filled bigot prone to projecting your own prejudices onto others.  In short, you really need to see a professional counselor, but I doubt that you will.

So, if you refuse to seek treatment please at least drop in here every so often.  It saddens me that you have no idea of the added entertainment value you provide.

But only the Universal Asshole could deliver such a powerful message....

he is telling us to cast aside our pagan iconography, our Crucifixes, Stars of David, Crescent Moons, our clothing and all....

in order that we may behold "The Flaccid Penis"...the Universalist Assholian symbol that he believes we all should kneel and worship before

How can we as a global people not rise up together to smite his revulsion?

Nothing we say is every going to change your infantile mind, mr tinypenis, but by God it sure is fun hurtling insults at you.

and FWIW, I think your rant on this picture being taken down is akin to a 3 year old throwing a TANTRUM because someone told her she doesn't get to do what she wants. WE ALL have to deal with a little censorship in our lives... You, ma'am, have not been able to develop enough emotionally to be able to handle it like a contributing member of society. So keep spewing your bile in your little weblog, and watch as the entire world holds you up as a shining example of HOW THE make the beast with two backs NOT TO ACT!

I don't get it.  Why would the champion of "One Human Family" and all that is inclusivly lovey-dovey in the world want to use "transexual" as a perjorative?  Why does he hate the transgendered community.  I guess he's one of those enlightened, annointed types that loves humanity, but just hates people.

I really wish he would make that appointment and get some professional help.

If you're going to answer back at least have some amount of wit to your replies. They're just so blah and dull and make me get on board with this detest of you just because you're sooooo excessively bland yet with an undeserved attitude about you.
For a reasonable fee, I'm willing to write your replies from now on so that you can back up that fantastic look of yours with some substance that better befits you. I can feel myself channeling Andy Dick or maybe that puppet Madam already for this worthy task.

given that he blogged us in the manner that he did...

I'm one of a very few people who feels that your should not pile shit in your yard

I've found that if opening my mouth gets me in trouble...

if I keep it shut it helps.

Please shut up.

Troll.

Basically he posted a link for a photo album I had at that website.  I had forgotten that I had joined the darn thing and it took me awhile to remember my password.

If you were to go to the link (password required) you would see a few pix of me and a few pix of my bikes.  But wait, there's more.  If you act now you get to see the brilliant take down commentary on my pix by CCEMN1.

The commentary can be summed up in four words: he calls me gay.

Again Chris, why do you hate gays?  Why denigrate the GLBT community with these constant hateful slurs?

How can you have such love for humanity but such hatred for real people?

Please!  Make that call!  Make that appointment!  Get the help you need!

As difficult as it is to say, the same rules apply across the forum, so the name calling and insults can stop.   Just ignore him.   He'll go away.
