Title: The Anything About Music Thread
Post by: nicrosato on April 03, 2010, 12:37:37 PM
Since I seen recent mention of bands with whom I'm not familiar, I though it appropriate to have a thread where y'all could post about your favorite (or least favorite) bands, songs, trends, mood music, musicians...

Have at it, young 'uns.

Doesn't count unless you post a link.
Robert Randolph & Rob Thomas : Voodoo child (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kORLhZ7XO-Y#)
Awesome re-do of some classic Jimi H, some incredible pick work. WOWZA! Maybe the best Rob Thomas I've seen as well.

Two others with a great blues/rock sound, Johny Lang and Kenny Wayne Sheppard.

Johnny Lang - Lie To Me (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DayCrQWJXuI#)

Kenny Wayne Shepherd- Blue On Black (Acoustic) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ee735pZ6kxk&feature=related#)

It was great to see you last night, Godek.

We went & saw quite possibly the worst concert I've ever seen (And I've seen hundreds).
It sucked so bad that I don't remember who the hell they were, but the company was great  [beer]

Hope you have, or had a safe trip back home .

Edit: Forgot to contribute.

If you have issues with the "F bomb" there is absolutely no need to open the first one.
Second two, Myles Kennedy (remember that name), & Mark T.
Scottish, The Buckley ones are for you. Jonny & KWS idolized this guy. He has many, many more "Bluesy" songs, but these are chilling. I would imagine Leonard Coen smiled down on him everytime Jeff sang Hallelujah (Now they are both singin' it together). Myles Kennedy also sings a great version of this also.
Ratfink, The Social D is for you (The band, not the lyrics).
Acoustic wizard, Nuno bettencourt.
And The Cult. Two of the "Items" in the last one are in my dream garage.

HAPPY EASTER  ;D

i make the beast with two backsing hate you, godsmack (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fg4dHFo9nrU#)
Alter Bridge - Rise Today (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYG3BPvFOgs#)

Jeff Buckley- Grace (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_-5OsViT4A#)

Social Distortion - Far behind live @ KROQ Weenie Roast 2007 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMt1BNeRH-8#)

Nuno "Midnight Express" Acoustic only! NO BACKING! Must Hear (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaMcf63f7Ic#)

My tastes are very eclectic, ranging from classical to Chuck Berry to jazz. For good old American music, I really love Lucinda Williams:

Lucinda Williams - Can`t Let Go (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4mlp7N3t1fs#)

And I've been a Little Feat fan since the original, Lowell George days of the early '70's:

Little Feat - Fat Man in the Bathtub (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDp3Grz28mE#)

Edit: I just realized the I inserted the links to the youTube videos, not the videos themselves. Still works.

Eminem - Lose Yourself (set to clips from 8 Mile) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_FzrqxfZ9U#lq-lq2-hq-vhq)

I know this isn't a big rap crowd. But I really feel this song right now. I'm ready to move beyond, I'm ready for the opportunity. I'm not sure where it's gonna happen just yet. But I'm about to break out. It may happen in several directions, but I'm tired of the un-ending struggle. It's time to reach for the next level. It's here. The future is happening around me, I've got to jump into it. I feel on fire... so pumped, so ready, I've burned to much time on struggles that weren't mine, trying to please others. Now it's my time, my turn I know I can.

I've proved to myself I have the heart and determination, I've never doubted I have the intelligence. What I've always lacked was the direction and drive. I know what I want now, and I have the drive. Shit I'd love to stay and chat but I've got crap to do!

Scottish,

I don't chime in much but I was once in a place like you.  After the long walk, I realized we are not what we want to be until we spent a lot of time walking the walk until we are recognized as what we are.  I wasn't a biker by buying the bike and the gear and showing up to places bikers were supposed to be at.. I became a biker by being a man who likes to ride.  Slim Shady is just a persona of the man he wanted to be... for the camera, he became at that moment.

In reality, we realize we became a long time ago and only just now realize what we are.

Welcome to dawn.

From the birthplace of rap and hip-hop, one of the originators of the form, the inimitable Kurtis Blow. This is pre-gangsta, proto-hip hop.

Kurtis Blow - Back By Popular Demand (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drs8NUwWU7I#lq-lq2-hq-vhq)

Lots of references to NYC.

It's hard to turn me off with music.  If I pull any Metallica out of my catalog it'll be older Metallica, like maybe Trapped Under Ice.  For Sabbath I'll take Fairies Wear Boots.

As it turns out, I'll listen to almost any form that's considered radical or extreme, but I'm really not into pop music forms.  I'll listen to (and enjoy) rap, metal, bluegrass, flatpick, country, some jazz, classical....I'm just not into soft rock or dance, or pop country, or pop R&B.  Maybe I'm just a rebel?

If I had to choose one band to listen to for the rest of my life to the exclusion of all others it'd be a toss up between Pink Floyd and Rage Against the Machine, leaning toward Rage at this moment.

Kurtis is the stuff, Nic.

Cloner, I know it's not the "real deal" but here is everything in a different wrapper.
That's Tom Morello from Rage & Dave Navarro from Jane's in the third vid.

Robert Trujillo from Metallica jam with Rodrigo Y Gabriela Chicago (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1SF8C8D1qo#lq-lq2-hq-vhq)
Rodrigo Y Gabriela's Video 'For Diablo Rojo' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KBgg-hrtyo&feature=fvw#lq-lq2-hq-vhq)
Whole Lotta Love sung by Franky Perez at the Slash and Friends Concert (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRIPEvvCGA4&feature=related#lq-lq2-hq-vhq)
Slash & Jerry Cantrell - Acoustic Wish You Were Here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JgcBlA9MEGI#lq-hq-vhq)

And the real deal

Black Sabbath - 06 - Fairies Wear boots (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IvbA8FBd_Vo#lq-lq2-hq-vhq)

I posted the G rated version of this on the general... felt it was worthy of a view here.

I might have to skip this Tool show so that The Los(er) can catch up on his show count.  Wait.  Maybe not.   ;D

If you're a sincere fan of MJK you have to check out Puscifer.  My personal favorite is Rev 22:20 about premature ejaculation.  For reference, the text of the verse in the King James version reads "He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus."

"Christ is coming.  So am I.  You would, too, if this sexy devil caught your eye.  She'll suck you dry."
"Jesus is risen.  It's no surprise.  He'd martyr his Momma to ride to hell between those thighs."

Puscifer Rev 22:20 Underworld (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ye0H91hxUMw#lq-lq2-hq-vhq)

Cut that jib, Ms. Mel!  I love BHG, too, but Tool, APC, and Puscifer (all MJK endeavours) outdistance BHG by some margin in my pantheon of favorites!

love that song also, THeLos.  And, I always feel the same no matter how many times I hear it...Thanks for posting it  [thumbsup]

I went for a run in the Bosque @ 6 this morning. the weather was perfect, I felt great & decided to listen to some tunes for the first time while running  (Bicycle racers don't wear headphones...period...it's gay, & dangerous). I opted for one ear piece, so I could hear someone coming up behind me yelling "outa' the make the beast with two backsin' way YO!"  (But it was early enough that I came across no one).  It was the perfect morning to listen to some supa' chill music.

It was great seeing Lorenzo & 9 @ Java Joes later this am.  These are for you, I know you love 'em  :)

I drank my weight in alcohol, saw TOOL cruised around Ft Collins for a day in my sisters 23 ford bucket, and her husbands 60 caddy hearse (with flame paint job and mag wheels), saw a guy on a road king eat spill his bike on college ave... over all a very fun road trip.

For any of you New Mexicants who happen to be in NY July 10th, that is the day Barb and I will be hosting our 3rd Annual Alpine Jam. We invite family and friends and friends of friends who play music to come by. We had 40 people last year, some professionals and some semi-pros. Music went on from 3:00 in the afternoon until 11 PM. Great fun. As half the hosting duo, I get to sit in with people on harmonica.
