I bought a 2002 monster 750 dark on april this year. it had almost 5000miles. Today i was riding in traffic for couple of hours and the temperature went up to 250F. The air temperature was ~100F. I was all the time on 1st or 2nd gear. Didn't go more than 25mph. When i turn on the bike it shows LOW.. i haven't seen the HI, even on 250F. I went for a ride around 10pm today on the highway at 80mph for an hour or so.. it didn't jump more than 210F. I have Arrow pipes and it backfires a lot when i downshift. Assuming CO is set correctly, check for exhaust leaks with the backfiring. Title: Re: '02 M750 overheating? Post by: Slide Panda on July 10, 2010, 02:14:51 AM Yeah, no worries for you. My 620 ran higher than 260 in all but the most chilly weather. 250 is nothing to fret.
If you're getting popping during deceleration downshifts often times it means there's a bit of a leak in the exhaust stream. I'd start by reseating the slip-ons and making sure all the connections to the headers are snug. Title: Re: '02 M750 overheating? i was thinking the backfiring was caused because of the Air/fuel ratio. thats what caused it on my friends RSV, so he was playing with those 2 little screws you adjust or smth... i will check the exhaust for leaks. thanks again. Randomly fussing the air fuel ratio is a great way to get the bike running like poo. Did he even look at the plugs before the got to fussing?
If your bike start running like crap, rules say he has to fix it, buy you a 6'er and you get to cuff him up side of his dumb head. Title: Re: '02 M750 overheating? I have an aircooled 750 and I was a little wary of sitting in stop and go traffic in the 100F heat this week. I would start to feel the header near my left foot heating up at the lights (worse for my leg than the bike no doubt)
