Title: Ouray 2013
Post by: Zaster on March 03, 2013, 03:50:49 PM
Talked to several folks at CAD today who were asking what the NMMR folks are
planing for our annual outing.
As an FYI, we are not welcome to stay at the accommodations we frequented the past two years
since we were deemed to noisy by other guests last year.
Chime in for suggestions and recommendations.
I will research and list all the options I come across in the meantime.

 :o [roll] ;D Well,...

Karl- I would definitely vote for the townhouse with the big garage off the Ouray pool...it seems like a bit off Ouray strip, but we are there to ride...gas station's right by us and it was fun last time... [thumbsup] [Dolph]

Now, I got to figure how to get me and the beast West...but, I will be riding Ouray 2013.  [beer]

From what the mojo has said she talked to the BW people about discounts for the hotel/condo. I'll try to talk to her again and confirm that. I loved being in that condo area. But either way I will go with you guys anywhere  [evil] [Dolph]

The Mountain Lodge looks great, but I really liked being near the other participants of the event so that we could share experiences, stories, and adult beverages without getting on a bike afterward.  I think I'd rather stay at the actual event hotel than six miles outside of town.  I'd vote for anything within walking distance of the event hotel and other events in town....especially that little bakery on main street.  Ummmmmmm.

It'll be great to see Joel near the end of summer, too!  I'll start priming Ashley for the fact that I'll be in Colorado for DiTR in 2013.  It's the 9th, 10th, and 11th, n'est pas?  My 21st anniversary is the Wednesday before, so we should be able to celebrate during the weekend of the 3rd and still keep everyone happy.  I think I'll take off Friday and Monday to make a more relaxing weekend of the whole thing.  Don't know if I want to take the Panigale or the SuperSport...or maybe title the Aermacchi....decisions, decisions.  Ok....the Panigale it is.   [Dolph]

Put me down for a bedroom, Karl, regardless of your location decision.  If you guys choose the Mountain Lodge I'll refrain from consuming alcohol in Ouray.  If I can talk Ashley into coming I will.  I think she'd enjoy a relaxing weekend in a mountain resort if she gave it a try.

[thumbsup] Thanks, Scott! I hope to make it there before end of summer for few rides up Crest and around...I dont think I can maintain a sane functioning mind/heart without doing that! :P [evil] Will be watching weather and airfares... ;D

I'm game with whatever shows up as lodging in Ouray...It is ~1750miles to Ouray from Morgantown and ~1750 back, so a bed for me would be perfect to realign the spine.  [bow_down] [beer]

& My trailer fits two bikes, even 3 actually...so if there's any Yahoo's out East like me missing fun, Holler!

Pretty much what Scott said. I'd like a room, and I'd prefer it be in Ouray itself, but exactly where is pretty inconsequential. If we wind up outside of town, I'll stay sober at group festivities until I get back to the ranch. At which point I will be making up for lost time.

Oh, and as a precaution this year, I'm gonna go ahead and request a room for me and a guest.

Speaking of all that, you guys will have to re-adjust the timetable in the future... You are double booked with Bonneville! [shaking finger emoticon]

We have currently 11 participants: Krystle & Matt, Pam & Karl, L'Scott, Scott C., Jonezy, Jim, James, JJ and Larry.
This would work sizewise: http://www.myourayvacation.com/elkhorn_townhome_1943_vacation_rental.html (http://www.myourayvacation.com/elkhorn_townhome_1943_vacation_rental.html)
It would run us $1,025 for three nights with the cleaning fee included....BTW we stayed there in 2010.

If Ashley goes she'll want a bedroom, so that MIGHT be a problem if she goes.  As I said, for planning purposes I'll pay for a bedroom whether she goes or not, just for the sake of advanced planning.

Still trying to decide myself. I want to be there for Stu's glorious Bonneville festivities.
But the wife will actually tag along to Ouray. She isn't so sure about Bonneville.

Of course *we* didn't get kicked out of the condos.  [evil]  [roll]  [evil]

I'm trying to give everyone an update of the NMMR plans for accommodations for this year.
We are fortunate that Jonzey found us an absolute kick ass place in Telluride that will handle our group.
Here is the confirmed attendee list:
Krys & Matt
Angie & John
Hanja & James
Pam & Karl
The above will be housed in a private bedroom

JJ & L'Scott
Jonzey & Jimbo
Larry & Gabe
The above will be housed in a private bedroom with two twin beds.

This will put us in a 4 bedroom condo and two 2 bedroom condos which means that
we still have 1 bedroom with two twin beds open.

The cost will be $250 per person for the three night stay and will include food and refreshments  [drink]
I would like to ask Krys to coordinate our efforts of hanging with the CO group as much as possible.  [Dolph]

I will also email the prospective attendees in case they don't frequent the forum

Please let me know if missed anyone or if you can't make it....I have to pull the trigger soon so we won't lose the place.

Hello all! Hope you are all as excited to go to Ouray as I!

I'm trying to plan vacation at work and my haul to Ouray from East. Please confirm the plans from Albuquerque both to and from, depending on which I'll either drive to ABQ and ride north or straight to Ouray.

Thanks! [Dolph]

I'm in the process of firming up the logistics with Jonzey. We have 19 participants to date and I will ask for a final head count via email. The cost should range between $285 and $300 per person for the three night stay including food and beverages (just found out about the 18% tax in Telluride  :-\).
As always I will take care of the deposit and final payment. Can't wait to  [Dolph] with you  [thumbsup]

Woah! JJ, you'll have to hit me up for a track day some time or something, my roommates and I are planning on Jennings fairly soon!  [thumbsup]

Not likely in the least, but if I was available to go to Ouray, I'd go. I really need to get my butt up there some time.

Last I heard, JJ and Molly are moving to Jacksonville, FL.  She'll transfer to a law school in J'ville, and he'll continue to telecommute.  They're really just not very happy in West Virginia.

The big news, however, that Joel neglected to pass along is that he and Molly have become officially engaged to be married!  I don't have details about a wedding, yet, but I'm sure Joel will keep us all in the loop.

I suggested a Vegas wedding!   8)

The latest on our annual outing:

Here is the current list of attendees:
King or queen bed:
Krystle & Matt
James & Hanja
John & Angie
Pam & Karl
Brad & Cathrine

Room with two twin beds:
JJ & Marco
Jonzey & Jimbo
Larry & Gabe
Matt Peters & John Kirin
Adam Smith

Jonzey has been kind enough to set this up with his friend Steve in Telluride.
The logistics will pan out as follows:
1-four bedroom condo 2-king and 2-queen and 3-2 bedroom suites each has a king in one room and 2 twin beds in the other. Total beds are 13 plus the condo is 2600 square feet and each has full kitchen. Looks like we will have enough and extra space on couch in each suite and the condo has like two. Steve said if we needed roll out beds he would provide those as well.
The cost per person will be $275 total for three nights including food and adult beverages if the listed participants are still able to attend.
I'm planing on pulling the trigger this weekend by sending the deposit.

My bike is actually off the road until I move somewhere more bike friendly. I've had too many close calls here and the riding is no good. I'm in the middle of prepping it for a little more serious track use.

I just got confirmation that Doug Barnette, one of the guys I used to ride with in Chattanooga, is coming out with Joel to ride with us at Ouray (Telluride).

Karl, if you can write Doug in for a sofa or roll-away spot he (and I) would greatly appreciated it.

For what it's worth, Doug is 68 years old and is a notorious sheep make the beast with two backser.  Please approach him as such and feel free to give him a ration of shit when you see him.  He likes that, especially if you comment negatively on how slow and poorly he rides.....even if you haven't seen him ride.  (You can always lie and say you saw a "Keener Video" of him.  A "Keener Video" is a video shot by Jim Keener...another guy we used to ride with back east....and could include riding, sheep make the beast with two backsing, or both simultaneously.)

has been going downhill quality wise.

Did some quick calculations to try figuring out gas/pit stops for our weekend:
ABQ to Telluride: 1. Espanola 84 miles 2. Chama 81 miles 3. Pagosa Springs 60 miles (lunch stop) 4. Durango 60 miles 5. Dolores 50 miles 6. Telluride 61 miles    total 380 miles 8hours incl. lunch stop

Rides

Telluride to Gateway via Ouray to meet with the CO crowd in the morning:
1. Ridgeway  60 miles 2. Naturita  60 miles 3. Gateway 52 miles   Total 350 miles length depending on Ouray stop

Telluride to Lake City
1. Montrose 66 miles 2. Gateview 80 miles 3. Lake City 21  miles.  Total 330 miles 8 hours incl. lunch stop

Ideas, suggestions and cheap shots welcome ;D

Joel just called and said he's on his way.  He plans to drive a few hours tonight so he'll be able to take his time a bit tomorrow and arrive Thursday afternoon.  He wondered if we want to do dinner or anything Thursday night as a group?

I had dinner with Joel as he passed through the Pensacola area. It's really too bad I couldn't just throw my bike on the trailer and head out there with him, but training takes precedence.  [bang]

Doesnt get much better than Gateway.  Rode it last thurs. Saw 2 cars between Naturita and Gateway.  Nice canyon riding for sure.  Its on the border of two counties and very rural, so uncommon to run into the sheriff.  Toward Moab is a option but not a very good one IMO; pretty boring long straightaway through paradox, but followed by nice twisties in La Sal.  Utah staties suck and they are abundant between La Sal and Moab.  Dove Creek is another turnoff after Naturita, but dont know much about it.

Its unfortunate that the stretch between Montrose and Cimmaron is patrolled by pricks, cause a ride to Crested Butte would be nice.  [bang]

Maybe Derek can help us with local research for proper routes.

My only encounters with LEOs in my years of DITR have only been along the Lake City route and on the way down/back to Denver.

Of course, if you just take Engineers Pass over to Lake City, you are more likely to NOT see LEOs.  [cheeky] [beer]
