Title: MotoGP Austin
Post by: swanny on February 26, 2014, 08:19:37 AM
Who all is going to MotoGP Austin this year? 8)  Amy and I are going down Saturday morning and coming back Sunday evening.

Not sure what our schedule at the track is yet but might have time to meetup at some point at the track or on Saturday evening.  We will be staying in Round Rock at the Holiday Inn.

Also, anyone going to WSBK at Laguna Seca?

We're not going this year but if I may add just one bit of first hand advice;  do NOT attempt to come home on Sunday night, or, if you must, prepare yourself for the worst traffic jam in recorded history that begins the moment you leave your parking spot and does not end until you pull into your driveway 7 hours later.

Seriously.  Avoid driving home Sunday night if at all possible  ;)

Unfortunately we have to come home Sunday.  I will make sure to have an alternate route planned incase the traffic is horrible.

Swanny,

I cannot go this year either but between regular I-35 traffic, CONSTRUCTION and a shit load of extra traffic due to the race here is my recommendation based on our experience last year:

When you leave the track stay well EAST of 35 and head North however you like. Make your way North and East to Hwy 79 and take that Northeast to 45. We never stopped on the way home and it was a very pleasant drive through central Texas. Of course that puts you on the wrong side of town if you live Fort Worth way but I'll leave those details to you.

We actually enjoyed our drive home.

Thanks for the advice Mark.  I live in Wylie so that route works fine for me.

Oh well...guess no one is going.  Carry on with the back and forth banter since that is how most of these threads go these days.

Unfortunately it has fallen on a bad weekend for folks around here this year. We had a pretty good group last year.

Trust me, if I didn't have a SERIOUS obligation I would be there again. I still cannot believe I an not going!  :'( :'(

[laugh]

Yeah, that about sums it up heading back up to Plano.

When is that construction heading North supposed to be done?

It was so much nicer when I lived in Austin for the F1.  It took me about 45 min to get from my door to standing inside the track at Turn 1.  NO traffic taking the back roads from South Austin to COTA!

Good deal Scott!  Maybe we can meet up and say "hello".  Been a few years since we saw each other.

I might weasel a trip to Austin for the race, have a customer based out of there. I'm checking now if I can find someone that will split a hotel room, but I'm hoping that every will fall into place.

I would've offered you a place to stay had you done this last year. I know you don't take up much drawer space.  [cheeky]

Awesome!  We have to pickup our tickets at the accreditation center when we get to the track so not quite sure where we will be.  PM me your cell and I will text you on Saturday.
