Title: Ouray/ Telluride 2015
Post by: Zaster on October 21, 2014, 06:06:13 PM
Just had my first inquiry about the upcoming event and thought I would get a thread started.

Here is Jonezy's inquiry to the folks in Telluride:

Let’s do the third weekend in AUG 14th thru the 17th with departure on the morning of the 17th.

Cabin #1 6 bedroom

Cabin # 8 4 bedroom

Cabin # 9 4 bedroom

I selected the #8 and #9 cause we have the option to split all the king beds into twins. We have a number of single guys so we need more twins. I will also like a quote for the same 2 bedroom suites we had last year with the top room having the two twins if things expand. Thank you Jonezy

Concentrating on Barber next year (in October) so I'll save my ducats for the trip east and a little stay with George at the Scottish Woods, with a bit of riding in the North Carolina mountains to sweeten the pot.

We could make it a group trip if anyone is interested.

You might be able to camp on a couch for less than what a spot at a camping place costs.  ;D

I'm pretty sure I'm coordinating for three couches at least... that's a lot of couch space, and all of our stuff will be covered in salt.  Easier to just set the salty camp back up.  We will probably be happy to borrow shower access...

Thanks though!

Really nice camping in Town Park in Telluride.  I think its $15 a night but not certain.  Should be no problem getting a spot, unless there is a big festival in town at the same time.

KRJ here, seems there is a miscommunication in the actual dates of the DitR, Some of us got the second week as the time of the gathering, and after viewing this thread, it sounds like it is the third week. Please let us know the date so We can readjust  our schedules, several of Us want to be there at the proper fun time!, thanx  KRJ.

The ABQ crowd hangs in Telluride and we are staying there from August 14 through 17.
I'm not sure what the CO group is doing who actually has been organizing the DITR in Ouray in past years.
I contacted them but have yet to get an answer  [roll]

Just a heads-up... the salt flats are looking less than promising for Speedweek.  No news yet, and if there is racing we'll be going... but if not, this part of the gang may not play in Telluride either.

Travel plans for Telluride trip: To confirm, we leave Albuquerque August 14, Friday morning towards Telluride, return Monday August 17, 2015. I'll be heading from Jacksonville, FL and will try and update as we drive across country...There are talks about construction and routes, did some research. Here's some updates for you all:

Website for Colorado road construction: http://www.cotrip.org/roadWork.htm (http://www.cotrip.org/roadWork.htm)

Rt160 basically has work going on as below:
Specifically this stretch:

I would personally like to avoid going 550 up north from ABQ, but its fine if we have no choice. The long route would be do our regular route and go through Ouray. Durango to Telluride through Cortez is 111miles and through Ouray is 120miles...time is longer due to fun curves.. ;D The cars can go the regular short route if needed...anyway group call, I just want to ride as much as I can!  [Dolph] [Dolph] [Dolph]

& If it helps anyone to be motivated if you are not already, here's my one way travel mid August...

Nice! How about showing us how improved on the way to Gateway...?  [cheeky] :P

It runs, so the improvements should be readily apparent.   ;)

A brief list of changes:

A fresh set of Pilot Road 4s (actually the front is the Pilot Road 4 GT that was mounted in error on Susan's Multi last year.....I can't tell the difference)
A complete set of body work
A new headlight
A new tail light
A new tail light housing
A new set of throttle cables
A new clutch master cylinder
A new clutch lever
A new clutch side bar end
A new set of turn signals and a flasher
A new wind screen
A new rider's seat
A new passenger's seat
A set of new fairing fasteners (in aluminum)
A set of new fuel tank flange fasteners (in aluminum)
A set of new wind screen fasteners (in aluminum)
A new air filter
A new oil filter
Renewed engine oil
Renewed coolant
A new left side switch cluster
A new exhaust hanger (in aluminum)

I'm sure I've left something out...but I'll think of it later.  I think I'm about $3000 into my $500 Aprilia.

John is still in Grand Junction.  The Docs are now telling him he actually has two broken vertebrae and that he'll need surgery to stabilize the area.  However, they can't do the surgery because he has blood clots in his lungs and they're afraid if they dislodge one it will kill him.  At this point he's resting and they plan to transport him to Albuquerque on Monday to undergo surgery sometime thereafter.  Worse than initial diagnosis indicated.

I have to pick my Prime Time/ Guaranteed Time off tonight. I can take a best guess, I know it is early. The second weekend is 12-14, I am going to put in for that. If the actual dates end up being different I will just have to see what I can do. The next weekend is still open on the leave calendar, but Monday is taken. I could always be sick on that Monday. Thanks for the reply, and no worries if it turns out to be a different weekend.
