Title: Should I do it???
Post by: DUCMONROB on December 06, 2014, 01:09:24 PM
I checked this bike out yesterday. It was filthy, needs the tank repainted. Has good tyres, Termi's and race ecu. Udder has been removed too.

The guy owns Megacycles in Bowral. Seemed like a decent fellow.

Any thoughts?

Merry Christmas and hi to everyone!

Rob

Very nice. Looking at the garage, how tidy it is and the gear the guy has i'd say it's been well cared for.

So rob, did you pull the trigger?

Still on the fence Don. How ya been mate?

Just thinking of the hassles of doing shims. Still sort of thinking a 900 injected bike would be better or even a 1000DS.

The price is right though.

I've been great Rob.
At that price it is hard to say no, and it's a great colour.
How much harder are the 4v shims to do, I've only ever had a go at the m1000 2v

The 1000Ds is a whole lot easier compared to the Desmoquatro. There is also the factor of flaking rockers too. I do love the colour.....though would prefer the 1000 as they are brutal in power delivery and they sound awesome.

G'day Brian. Glad to see you haven't lost your humour. So what happened??

Post by: Two dogs on December 09, 2014, 03:32:46 AM
What happened you may ask ?
I bought Bwiiiiiiiiiiiians old  S4R forks, usual story ..........only used on Sundays driven by an old lady too church
serviced regulaly  [roll] ended up they were a couple of 2 x 4's made in china from packing crates .

At great expense they have been shipped to Mexico for a complete re birth .
The rest of the (award winning ) [thumbsup] bike is top notch.

Glad to hear everything is going well with the old girl Des. I must say the Showa front end on the bike was pretty good. Why the change?

Yeah, it's smee, Super. Yes, I'm in the market (again), and I'm totally confused.

I was interested in this bike, and other S4R's too, but I'm sorta put off having to stop for fuel every 140km.

No S2R 1000's for sale in NSW (from what I can see), don't think I wanna 800. Leaning toward a 1100s or EVO. Plus I think the new 821 is butt ugly.

Anyway, hi everyone.

Firstly, good to see you back in here Rob  !

Re Des's reason for buying my forks, I think it was that he preferred the nice gold bits on the legs. That didn't worry me as bling is not my scene, much prefer proven safety items.   [thumbsup]
Also, he got mine for a steal plus Max bought his. Only cost him and extra $100 after the deal.

Great to see your still poking around mate! Are you still in Picton?? (ps I have missed Wonder woman! 8-))
The beauty of the earlier S4R bikes is the tin tank that holds more than the plastic tanks of the later models. I flatly refuse to buy a S4Rs for the lack of mileage from the tank. The Kawasaki I now have is good for 350-400 kilometres which is so much better!   I might go and have another look this week end but personally I would prefer a 1000DS.

Thanks Brian for the welcome back. I have never been too far away. Sometimes lurking....... [coffee]

$100 dollar upgrade not bad!

Good to see some of the regulars are still around. So how is Rob?

Yep, still in Picton. I'm a regular at the George on the weekend.

I am looking at the Kwaka's as well, the Z800 has caught my eye. Still not sold on it as yet. My heart is still with the Ducs.

When did the S4R change to plastic? And what's the difference between the 2?

Still confused, looked at the 821 at Frasers at Fairy Meadow. The Monsters have gotten bigger and uglier, I'm not a fan of the new ones.

You wont be disappointed with the Kwaka. Take one for a ride (I know I know I shouldn't be promoting another brand).

Not sure what year they changed to plastic I am guessing around 2006.

The only new monster I like is the new 1200S. There is one kitted out with Termis at Homebush Frasers which does look nice. trouble is I'm tight and don't want to spend that much.

Need to catch up for a beer or coffee sometime soon.

Still not as pretty as the earlier models, but I have fallen in love all over again.

Did the Alpine Way and had to get a new rear tyre. Lucky there was a place in Jindabyne that sold tyres.

Nice bike Super!

I have always been a fan of the new and newer shapes.
If I was ever up for a Monster again I'd be looking at one of them but I'm also keen on the new Scrambler  ;)

Thanks Matty, it has bin a long time coming. Preferred black over red, red didn't really float my goat.

It has a couple of niggling issues I'll have to address, one is I never know what gear it likes to be in, I know it doesn't like 6th, even at freeway speeds (legal) and it has a 14t already.

Going to sign myself up for a bit of training too.

Now that this won't be a daily commuter like my last bike, I will be able to enjoy it more.

          848 Streetfighter didn't appeal to you ?

Nah, a little out of my price range.

I am much the same with my new/old Darmah too.
Still trying to sort out it's happy place with me, what I do know is that it takes at least 30 mins to get warm and feel ok.

Training is always a good thing to do, I've done a little bit on the Adv bike which does actually help for road as well.
Hope we can all get together for a run sometime soon.

There was a 1200 parked at work today so I was able to have a good look at it, first time I have seen one in the flesh. Well I have to say I liked it a lot more than I thought I would, the more I looked the more I liked, must be a lot of fun to ride ! Well done !

Good work Super glad to see you back on the road. Me I'm still on the fence though a nice 1000ds came up this week. Need to sell my JCW Mini which is going Saturday before I ask the Mrs for a cash advance....again! ;D

I like the 1200s though I saw one on Saturday at the Throttle Roll and I just can't pull away from the original shape.

Nice Rob  [thumbsup]
very similar to my old Preciouse.
black on black frame looks good, lots of potential there,to bling it up,  [roll]
a tip if you keep the bug screen, matt black plasti dip the inside off the screen works a treat ,just did mine ,saves buying a tinted screen. :D
plus i didn't realise it is very easy to convert to a ss swing arm, if you come buy the parts cheap. ;)

Hi Rob yes the brain is ticking over on what to do to the bike.

levers ordered
CF short rear hugger ordered
CRG bar end mirrors ordered

Andy supplied CF beer tray (Need to repair)

Need to re paint rear sets and oil cooler

Seat cowl needs re paint (Will do this when I think what I want to do with the colour)

Thinking of a titainium stripe over the black and maybe change the plain black to a metallic. Any suggestions would be great!

SS swingarm would be an easy upgrade so maybe keep my eye out for one though not important yet

The run up Macquarie pass and down to Kiama Blow hole was great. The Blow hole was even pumping! I haven't seen it working in a long time.

I'll be up for a Jenolan , Bathurst run but surely that one will be for a warmer time of year! Our last Bathurst group ride got abandoned at Lithgow due to it being bloody freezing.

Rob decisions decisions my 5 cents only to confuse you more [roll]
I had the rims on my current bike sprayed black pearl, basically a fine silver metallic through the paint glistens nicely in the sun, like metallic brake dust   [roll],

Black pearl on the tank etc and  dark silver stripes, would be a good colour scheme .

With a black on black bike, i quite like the gold theme, as on this newer monster and old 900ss,
gold stripes and decals only  :-*,
not levers and other billet ,then it looks wrong. [puke]
keep the billet black or silver. :P
you got the gold brembos, and rotors which will work in nicely 8)

Thanks for the input Rob. The gold would be great but I need to think about it. Im leaving the paint till last The peal paints are really nice too. How about black with gold decals & stripes with a pearl over the whole lot?? The options are unlimited.

No problem for the day trip to Bathurst I like that run so would be looking forward to it! ;D
