Welcome.
Good score.  [thumbsup]
This community has alot of knowledge accessed via the search function and various sections. Years of info available. Plenty of info on tuning and mods as someone has usually done it.. The sponsors have most needs covered too.
Cheers.

Yeah. I have been searching around for a few days now. Can't wait to start riding this. But I've got to swap the aftermarket exhaust for stock. It's just too loud for me. Luckily i have the stock system.

You may be able to find dB killer inserts for the aftermarket ones you have vs going back to stock. The stock ones are capital H Heavy!

And if you don't have records that the cam belts have been replaced  - you'll need to look into that. They are 2 year from install or 12K miles of service replacement item. And it's which ever of those items, age or miles, is hit *first*

And congrats!

And welcome too

He had records for the belts and valves being done later half of 2013 at 7500 miles. currently at 10k. I will do them when i hit 15k, in a few months.

Yeah, stock exhausts are SUPER heavy. Tank bag is now on. Ready for commuting! Just need a plate..

Have put about 600 miles on the bike so far. Commuted 3 days last week, and so far every day this week. SUPER HAPPY!!! Nice to see some of the back roads have been swept of some of the salt/gravel/sand as well. Added my Rammount this morning.

Nice. Just spent some time yesterday evening corralling the yard sale shit that's taken over my garage so I can actually safely get a bike back in it, and turned around.

- I've got a stupidly steep drive way - so there's no maneuvering the bike, pushing or backing out, on it

Title: Re: Out west in the Mountains!
Post by: fragile_this_side_up on March 18, 2015, 11:32:50 AM
Yeah, i can't push my bikes up my driveway by myself... I just roll it backwards out the garage. ;)

Title: Re: Out west in the Mountains!
Post by: Slide Panda on March 18, 2015, 11:58:55 AM
You don't get it... my drive has stairs. Not the oh those are nice, cosmetic sort. Nope, the sort of dimensions the stairs in your house have. Backing out is a nerve wracking thing man...

And there's about no way any single person can push a bike up my drive. You just can't keep enough traction to make way.

It's a git ridiculous. If I ever move, the tool chest is going to need to be roped down the drive with a block and tackle rig

Jesus. Mine is about 20ft long, with about a 5 foot rise...

Jesus. Mine is about 20ft long, with about a 5 foot rise...

haha! Childs play.

You can push that bike up there easy!

Mines... eh 20' rise over 30' - spit-ball guesstimate. There's a coupel inches rise, then 13 steps up to the mid point, then the steps split off and the grade isn't *quite* as steep. The garage door's below the front door...

In short - steep as all hell.

Theres a nubmer of skid marks on it from decents where I've locked the rear

Title: Re:

I guess. Paved area leading to a garage. I have a 2 car with a car two bikes and a ton of crap. No room to turn bikes around inside.

Post by: Slide Panda on March 19, 2015, 07:39:17 AM
Ah you found (had) the inserts - very good.

Commute riding will kill the center of tires, just is. No FHE on them, but some folks I know *love* the Pirelli Angels. They should hold up better for commute duty and still provide quite good grip when not commuting  [Dolph]

Title: Re: Out west in the Mountains!
Post by: fragile_this_side_up on March 19, 2015, 07:46:15 AM
Oh yeah, i've highway'd all my previous tires. Kinda surprised how quick though. But then again, i've put 700 miles on it in two weeks... :D

I had to order the inserts from PJ's. But they were worth it!!

i will probably replace these tires with Michelin Road 4's. More of a touring tire, but i should get 20k out of them. I've got 15k out of my Anakee 3's on my Vstrom, with plenty left to go and that bike is 100lbs heavier. Road 4's also have the dual compound technology that the Anakee 3's have.

Pjs parts... good folks. Store site's a little clunky, but they are cool to deal with. PJ helped me find some special bits and unusual stuff for a project.  [thumbsup]

Ordered my Pilot Road 4's today. Will mount them eventually. Front tire is dry rotted and cracking. Only a matter of time till it blows on me and the rear is getting worn anyways. :(

Haha. Yes. Looking at the weather next week, I won't want to ride much anyways so might as well do it some time next week. Tires will be here the 6th. Stands on the other hand, may not be delivered until the 8th.. :(

I can ride the Vstrom in the mean time. Didn't ride today because i've got a cold. :( DAMN IT'S SO NICE OUT!!   [bang]

It looks like the previous owner hit a curb. The front wheel is all scratched up on the rim as well. Oh well. I guess that's what you get when you buy a used bike sometimes.

Boo... but yeah. Used can save or cost.

Wheel still true? That's the big 'un

If you feel like going bling bling on the front axle

Got one for $85 from the dealer. Wheel seemed to spin true on the balancer.

I didnt look over the bike all that much when i bought it really. Didnt even run because the battery was dead. But had my heart set on it anyways. Could have been much worse! Had the important paperwork showing the belts and valves were done on schedule by a dealer though. I would do it again. Haha.

IF the front feels ok, don't rush on it. But when it comes time for a service it might be worth it send them off to a sop that can check for any tweaks.

I've been sending off to Traxxion down in GA.

Yeah. I did the shift star on my SV650 which required me to pull thr clutches and clutch basket. At least i wont have to worry about coolant this time around! I should be able to limp it another 1500 miles so i can do it when im doing the valves and belts as well at 15k. So about 3 weeks time.

These bikes REALLY don't like the cold! Last two days it's been cold and rainy, and my Duc has suffered a substantial fuel economy loss!

http://www.fuelly.com/motorcycle/ducati/monster_696/2009/joeyz/350888 (http://www.fuelly.com/motorcycle/ducati/monster_696/2009/joeyz/350888)

About 8% down over the last two days compared to last week.

Really?

Hmm, odd'ish

My 900 is of a different generation - but I could feel the power difference between a nice cool morning and warm-hot afternoon. The ole girl def liked the cooler denser air.

Granted, total butt-dyno and never bothered logging the MPG over time like you... so I have no idea there. So apples and oranges... but it did feel better  [Dolph]

Bike definitely feels better in the cold, but it's more fuel hungry. I'm a little different as far as fuel economy goes. I like to record it, but then again i'm getting gas every day! :D

That leak could be as simple as the o rings on the pushrod or the o ring in te clutch slave. Or as the PANDA said crappy stuff  [coffee]

Mmm good point - is it oil or brake fluid?

Title: Re: Out west in the Mountains!
Post by: fragile_this_side_up on June 16, 2015, 09:38:44 AM
Think it's brake fluid. I'm going to order the 3 orings, i think, from CA cycleworks and just rebuild this one to get it back on the road. Wish i knew. I could have saved on shipping! Ordered my belts yesterday. :)

Title: Re: Out west in the Mountains!
Post by: Slide Panda on June 16, 2015, 09:44:39 AM
Give them a call - if they hvve not shipped the belts yet they can probably toss the rings in the same box. They are good folks.

brake fluid will rinse off with water, oil won't. Or theres the brown paper bag trick. Oily stuff will make it translucent and stay that way.

Post by: fragile_this_side_up on June 16, 2015, 09:47:44 AM
Oh, they shipped them yesterday. Definitely seem like good folks. I'll give 'em a call in a few.

This is the crap that happens when i wash my bike. Shit falls to pieces. :(

Not sure either... maybe a beer reference. Bells Oberon is a nice summer beer.

Belts/o rings and ducati tool rentals came in today. Still waiting on slave cylinder.

Title: Re:
Post by: fragile_this_side_up on June 21, 2015, 04:54:00 AM
Having such a pain bleeding this damn thing out. Im guessing the bleeder screws from Ducati suck and its pulling air from outside, not fluid from in. Mityvac doesnt even help.

Title: Re:
Post by: fragile_this_side_up on June 21, 2015, 11:30:49 AM
Aaaaaaaand got it. Master had to be removed and rotated a little. Also helped pulling the lever and using a 4mm allen key to push the master as well.

Title: Re: Out west in the Mountains!
Post by: Slide Panda on June 22, 2015, 06:25:12 AM
Ass pain when replacing the clutch slave is a tradition.

One classic trick is to bleed, and then just leave the bike over night or a day with the lever strapped to the bar, to give bubbles a chance to float up the fluid column and make it all the way to the reservoir

Post by: fragile_this_side_up on June 22, 2015, 07:57:06 AM

I did put a speed bleeder on the slave and it made life easier. also check the top of the master to ensure the hose it tight and no air is getting in as well.

I feel like the OE bleeders are part of the problem. they seem to let air in??? I dunno.

Went to put on the tank this morning. I had a little fuel that leaked out of the tank and on that plastic protective cover. I thought it was just because, well, not sure. But now i found out!! Kind of scary!!!

So, i guess my fuel mileage will go up?? :D Have to get a new o ring from somewhere today. Got the shift kit as well, so now i need to pull off the clutch cover in the morning.

For my commute, i'm extremely happy with how little squaring is going on. 80% of my 125 mile round trip commute is rte 66..

I also have this going on:

SUCH CRAP!!! I got a new job, Yay! So i bought a box truck to use. Yay! so i went to pick up the truck, and used the aluminum ramp to get my Ducati on the back... And dropped the bike from halfway up......  :'( :'( [bang] Luckily, it fell on me so it had a pretty soft landing.. Still, bent the handle bars and broke the mirror... :(

Title: Re: Out west in the Mountains!
Post by: Slide Panda on October 08, 2015, 09:45:40 AM
Oh BTW, the cargo ramps for box trucks that have been used a bit are slippery as make the beast with two backs. Stripes of grip tape can help a bunch....

:( That really sucks.

Don't neglect a visit to the doc if you're hurting a couple days still. A bike is not a light object to have fall upon one.

And what's the  plan for the truck?
