Title: What type of rear stand for 659
Post by: redsc1 on September 06, 2015, 02:37:07 AM
Hi All

I want to be able to clean my chain properly so does anyone know what type of rear stand I would need for my 659 monster and where I can buy one?

Thanks

Simon

Mate if you can find someone selling one of the Aldi ones, they are cheap but work well. It has L shaped bits that fit under the swing arms, plus brackets that work is you have rear sliders or spools. [thumbsup]

IIRC, ALDI stands are for double sided swing arms only.

I reckon the best stands are Sharp Racing stands. Made in Melbourne, I reckon they're the best.

FWIW, I have a cheapie for the rear which I bought for $90 in 2011 when I bought the bike which works well, and a Sharp for the front.

If my bike had a single sided swing arm only, I'd buy a Sharp. 👍🏻👍🏻

All the best with it.

M659 is a double sided swing arm GK...  same as a 696  :)

I wasn't sure whether they were or not.

Well in that case I recommend.....

A Sharp Racing stand! Lol!

See site link above. 👍🏻

I won't bring up state of origin in case that gives the wrong impression ... but our Sharp stand is not quite square (but it came with a bike so we haven't had it since new).

It was replaced with a cheapie off ebay that somebody had suggested on here. Which is a bit lightweight but is really only used if want all the bikes 'up' at once. Kaneg may be a better option - we had a front Kaneg stand which worked well.

But for choice and engineering I would recommend Anderson Stands ... we have a couple of their Spacesavers which work a treat and are constantly in use. They are relatively heavy and relatively expensive ... but it is probably a case of you get what you pay for.

First world problems! 👍🏻
I'm sure the OP will find a good Aussie made stand, or a good cheap import, or something in between!

I bought this
http://www.torpedo7.com.au/products/T7S7LNNFH/title/torpedo7-motorcycle-front-head-lift-stand (http://www.torpedo7.com.au/products/T7S7LNNFH/title/torpedo7-motorcycle-front-head-lift-stand)
I realise you are looking for a rear stand but have a look at their website for what you are after.
Really happy with the stand I got, postage very reasonable

The guy that makes the Sharp stands is absolutely meticulous and fastidious. Best stands I have ever used. They would at the very least be US Pit Bull stand quality from what the Northerners say. If its a flaw (he wouldn't let them out like that), he would replace it out of pride of workmanship. Take a pic and give him a call, you never know your luck. Sounds like your stand got bent somehow, which is amazing as they are pretty tough, so maybe driven over with a 4x4 or a palette fell on it on delivery, or some such accident by previous owner. They are very expensive, professional quality stands, and not really necessary unless you are using them all the time.
Anderson are very good, I have owned one of those too. I have a Sharp front head-stem stand and a Sharp under fork front stand which are excellent quality. The best Ducati under engine stand I have used is a Sharp stand.
I also have an R-Jays rear stand and Pit Posse' rear stand which are ok and a no name rear stand that flexes and wobbles.
You're spoilt for choice from Pro quality to el cheapo.

Hi

For the time being I have an Oxford rear stand that does the job for when I just want to clean the chain but I am going to get an Anderson Stand. The Oxford was fine when I had a much lighter, smaller and less valuable bike but I don't really trust it with the Monster :-)
