After starring at it for a few days, riding it, falling in love.
I cleaned it up a bit, ( not with a sponge)
re routed wire, pulled airbox and various bits an pieces off.
jetted carbs, chopped up airbox, ect
This will not be a shinny pennie.
This will be an ugly beast, loud and obnoxious. Hence painting a dented tank.

A little movment, Rearsets on, brake and clutch lines on. put on the Brembo gold brake and clutch master, but will change out to some sweet Brembo radial masters. Relocated kill switch, and trying out an old Honda turn signal, Dip switch, much smaller then stock. Still waiting on parts, most from Europe.

Were the Alpina's a direct bolt-on? Specifically the front 17mm axle? Hope to have a set someday also on my '98. Enjoying this.

Would you like to share the specs of your mods for the real wheel? The alpinas are 25mm front axle 25mm rear right?

17mm rear axle, front one side of fork will be milled out to accept 27mm end of new axle and a spacer will be made, rear a sleeve will be made and some modifications to caliper hanger.
I have offset rotors so calipers up front are fine. Not direct bolt on, a little moding

Yes, 25mm rear axle and front. Although front axle on 95 is 22mm, the bore on the fork is 25. If you remove the threaded slug from left, you will need to bore the right to fit the 27mm side of the axle, use the same spacer that the sport classic uses (GT1000, Paul Smart)front done. Offset rotors that come on the 95 need no shims. The rear is just getting a later monster carrier, using gt1000 rear caliper carrier flipped, st3 axle adjustment inserts and boring out each side of the rear swing arm to accommodate for the 25mm axle.

Post by: johnw138 on January 24, 2016, 04:11:03 AM
Thanks! Thats a different approach to the rear wheel than i have seen before.

I have seen people using top hat axle spacers with a 17mm rear axle, and using the brake hanger from the monster.
The surface that sits against the swingarm needs to be taken down by  0.5mm.

Cant wait to see your bike finished!

Love the spoked wheels on a Monster - missed out on some RoadRacing hubs last year in the UK but building a complete bike means no $$'s for too many trick parts.

Are your silencers mounted correctly as they appear to kick up slightly more than they 'should'?

when the frame fab is done, the angle of the exhaust will make more sense

when the frame fab is done, the angle of the exhaust will make more sense, and honestly at this point, nothing is set in stone with the exhaust. looking at other options such as keeping it under the motor. just got tread on wheel, so fender fab time. and the more chopping of the frame
Some other goodies are in, custom GPS speedo, and custom tac. a donor tank to chop up and play with. and a few other old school Duc bits the might get incorporated.

No, I didn't die or wander off into outer or inner space. Much busy at the shop and renovating my house. So my little beastie suffers.
Will be sparking it back up. New FCR 41mm coming, as well as some new shwanky bolt ons.
and she sits desolate in the corner. Frame fab to start soon I swear.

So I actually had some time to torture my bike today.
Ya know when you do something, then you realise that your gonna re invent the wheel. Back to the drawing board with the set cowl, and gonna re invent the frame. Third pick is photoshopped to show the direction i'm headed. Oh joy, lots of work now

The pivot bolt for the rear rocker holds the entire rear end up.

What's going to support it besides the two tubes that go up from the footpeg mounts?

there will be new top frame rail running from rear forward under the rear cowl, will be " notching the tank, ect
with tank and seat installed, it will not be seen.

Started frame mock up and tacking, created a mess of work to be done to tank. But it will look great when all is done, will not see new frame add on

that part of the frame is a known weak point and is prone to cracking.
Now that you've removed part of the bracing it looks a bit weaker..  I'd be putting some gussets in there as well...

Thanks, will be doing that when I finish mock up and do final welding. The physics of the frame have changed so there is no flex at that point anymore. The pressure exerted from the suspension is now countered by the rider, where as before the rider weight was only to the rear of the bike, it is now shared between the front and rear. The new weak point is behind the suspension pivot at the butt joint. Which is why I ran a slug the full length of that tube.

What's with the tank?  I few posts ago you had a two tone blue and aluminium look.  The latest photo looks like it is all black, or is that just the side angle the photo was shot from?

Alright, ready for wire's and pumbing. Flywheel should be in today. sooo pretty. will weigh new flywheel, but I'm pretty sure dropped almost 6lbs of rotating mass off the motor.

Really liked this project, how the tank-frame-rear lined up etc.

What happened?

has nothing to do with the project. tank and frame are not being sold. honestly, i doubt any of it will get sold. Hopefully all will work out and will be on the road by spring. Has to do with economics outside the project. Keep posted
