I get to watch AFL games live on FS2. They usually come on at 1am est. I've only watched on and off over the years so I really don't know the teams or the big rivalries. Any of you blokes have advice on where I can read a bit of history so to speak? (Last decade or so) I have the AFL website saved to see upcoming matches etc.

Kopf, there's a long standing joke/slur/belief that you have to be missing quite a number of teeth to be a Collingwood supporter!

A lot of their supporters tend to be somewhat down and outers. That appears true for each club's supporter base, but strangely moreso for Collingwood.

Cloke has been very out of form and commentators here have been suggesting he'll be moved on at season's end.

Are you getting a feel for the game?

Yes. I've figured out 'most' of the penalty calls, as well as really good plays etc.. Seems to be some gray areas from time to time. I need to sit through a game with someone that knows as much as I do about the NFL. The Swans dominated their game last night, it didn't finish till 0300 here.

Swans are a very good team. When they're on song, they are tough to beat, especially on their home ground in Sydney.
At Melbourne, on the MCG, they don't fare as well.
Sydney and Hawthorn (my team) have quite a rivalry.

With the gray areas. Yes, there are many and are quite frustrating. The rules often appear to be reinterpreted as the season goes on, and the Friday game is usually closely watched to see what rules are tightened up on for that round. Strange really.

If you ever come down under koko64 and I would be on a long list who'd be happy to sit through a few games with you.

I'd personally get you to my range also. That would be some great fun and learning right there! 👍🏻👍🏻

I didn't have any games on cable the past few nights. I paid for a streaming service through the AFL, but it'll show a game start time then it doesn't play at the scheduled time, just highlights the next day. Ill shoot them an email and try and figure out the issue.

The women's game was good! Lots of basic skill errors but hey, they're just getting started. It'll just get better and better.

They went in hard for the footy though which is what it's all about. They only had 16 per team in the ground, as opposed to the usual 18. It's said that this will make their game more free flowing. They also used a slightly smaller ball, allowing for the smaller hand size of women. 👍🏻👍🏻

Hawks are a mere shell of their former selves. The 2nd tier players must step up into reliable, fierce leaders/performers or the poor results will continue.

There's quite a batch of young blokes being blooded and they will take time to develop. I doubt we'll get into the finals this year.

My team - Melbourne Storm is rarely shown on free to air TV, as rugby is mainly a based in the more northern Aussie states of New South Wales and Queensland.

This season is the closest between teams as it's been for many, many years.

Not good for fans like me who are used to their team winning most games, but certainly great for most other fans whose teams are on the improve.

To be sure, closer games equals exciting football!

It's our captain's 300th game and he announced on Monday that he's retiring at season's end.

We drew with GWS last week, Cats did the week prior. Now it's us Vs the Cats!

Will be a tough game to win but we're playing well at the moment. Cats will surely be favourites to win it.

Just got some stats on a team having two drawn games in a row. Last time it happened was to Carlton in 1921.

Wait until you see a game at the MCG for real! You'll love it! Atmosphere is awesome! Only downside is that the MCG in the height of Winter is ffffreezing, nothing like Alabama!

Etihad Stadium is different, as it's got a roof. The capacity is somewhat less there though, but the crowd still get right into it!

Geelong is looking very good this year.

North Melbourne is a genuine finals contender too, but Geelong is nigh on impossible to beat on their home turf!

Sydney dismantled Saint Kilda. It was all but over at quarter time.

These teams are the oldest and fiercest of rivals.

They are two Melbourne suburbs divided by a road. Richmond has set league history of just reaching 100,000 supporters. Huge number for our game!

They play to position and against their opponent more like the old days. I prefer that.

I was thinking along similar lines, but didn’t have anything to compare it to. I really enjoyed that style/technique of how the game is played. More of a chess match.

The men don't play to position and it's more like a giant basketball game. The women play more old school (without the fighting) ;D I don't like how the men's game has evolved .
