Title: A question about factory [or other] service manuals
Post by: diamonddog-2 on July 10, 2018, 08:32:17 AM
There's a 2003 factory Ducati service manual [in English and Italian!] for sale near me for $50. It's for a 2003 M1000.  Would it make any sense to have it on hand for use with my 2001 M900?  I'm not sure how much change there is between the 2 models and years.....other than, you know,  1 is the 2001 M900 and 1 is the 2003 M1000.  I don't have any service books other than the owner's manual which I printed off of a link. [Barely worth the ink as far as usable info...imo.]  I think it might be nice to have a quick reference book handy if it's worthwhile and usable information for my 2001 900.

If this just ain't gonna work, any other suggestions for a solid manual to keep around?  ....  Or screw it and just use the internet and DMF?

Just figured I throw this out there. Lotsy Grotzi   [Much Thanks]

The motor and chassis changed quite substantially between those models. Chassis changed at rear in 02 and the 1000 motor was a redesigned update of the 900. You can get the Haynes manual for all 900s and the Desmotimes Desmodue manual which is full of handy tips.

It depends what you want to do as the later manual would have general info that's useful but I would put the 50 towards the  correct Haynes. The Desmotimes manual is very handy in regards to servicing tips, improvements and modifications.

I would say,

get this one (LT Snyder's book) $39.99 + $9.95 shipping
http://desmotimes.com/maintenance1.htm

And this one (Haynes) around $25 from Amazon
https://www.amazon.com/Ducati-2-valve-V-Twins-Haynes-Service/dp/1844252779/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1531276740&sr=8-1&keywords=ducati+haynes+manual

Buy Snyder's book first.
