Title: Monster 696 clutch cover
Post by: aleq88 on November 01, 2018, 12:04:43 AM
I just purchased for my 2010 monster 696 a new OEM clutch cover from ebay with  part number 243.2.118.AB. As i searched on the internet i found out that this clutch cover was made for Ducati 848 and the OEM number for me is 243.2.118.1AC.  Will 243.2.118.1AB fit my monster? the only difecence i noticed is a slightly brighter color than my old one. Here are  some photos. Thanks guys.

Welcome  [thumbsup]

Pretty sure they are the same - except color. (not 100%, just "pretty")

That part number difference is indeed the color, a good example is the end alphanumerics on gas tanks.

Numbers that are cast into the metal are for that part as a raw casting, which then gets further machining, painting, etc. then is assigned whatever finished part number it is.
I've had zero success searching for such cast-in part numbers.

Wondering....  the brass looking bushing (bearing?) inside the cover, upper right in your picture, looks badly beaten. I don't know what goes in that hole, but it shouldn't be something spinning by the looks of it. Speeddog will know.

That bushing and seal go around the snout on the crankshaft, providing a bit of structural support and delivery of oil to the crank and rod big end.
So very important, yes.

Make sure that area is clean, as well as the passages that connect to it.
Confirm the bushing and seal are in good shape, no damage.

If everything is correct, I don't think that clip will rotate by finger push alone.
