Title: M796 - no keys
Post by: ungeheuer on September 25, 2020, 12:47:51 AM
G'Day Ducatters,

So if a bloke was thinking about buying a vandalised M796 (same thing applies for M1100) as a winter project.....  how would he go about dealing with a machine which came with no key, no red key and no ID 'credit' card?

New clocks, locks and ECU?  I probably knew the answer to these questions once..... but.....  :-\

Anyway, your help be much appreciated...

Pretty sure the M796 just came with 2 black keys, no red key.
The 796 is the Siemens electrickery I believe and I think they can be rekeyed by sending the proper bits off to the guys who do that.
Model year might end up being relevant from budgetary standpoint.
But I have not done the 'whole enchilada' with a new bike.

A customer managed to break the tip off his key and that was troublesome.

It may be cheapest to get a whole lock n key set second hand and then send the lot off to school to be taught to play together.

The side-cut keys are more difficult to get done as it seems to require a locksmith but they've all moved to Ibiza and the keycutters down at HardwareHouse have no make the beast with two backsin idea what to do.

M796 just had the two black keys + card.

Places like SOS Diagnostics (http://sosdiagnostics.com/ducati.html) can pull the code and/or program new keys and provide a new card. You just have to send the cluster and ignition lock. IIRC it was between $300-$400.

I would get the computer flashed, getting rid of the immobilizer.

^^ What those guys said.

You may find a similar boffin shop located on the particular island you're on now.

No slag on SOS, they've done stellar work for me but transcontinental shipment of flight-critical parts makes me nervous.

Thanks fellas  [thumbsup]

I think you're all right about the no red key.  And you're definitely correct about the Siemens business.

I'll let you know how I go  [popcorn]

No red key is correct.
