Title: Silicone/sealant where there's oil?
Post by: stopintime on September 25, 2020, 02:37:56 PM
The oil passage to the vertical head is blocked (to avoid the usual leak between cases and cylinder). External oil feed to the cam.

I'm not sure why, but there is now a leak at the usual spot anyway. Maybe/probably slowly returning oil from the head.

I'm having a long 'special' bolt made. It's going into the hole just next to the spark plug. The first inch is just 'transportation' before the bolt threads/plugs into the oil gallery.

The advice I got was to add silicone or sealant to make sure it'll be tight.

Which product and how to apply it? Some oil, little air - will it cure?

ThreeBond is the usual stuff, I've found it faultless.

IIRC 1215 is the product number, the same stuff appears in a similar tube as Hondabond and Yamabond and Ducatibond and and

Good. I have that.

How do I get it to where it's needed?

Ah, I need to look at a head to see what's going on, there's been some thinking done outside the box and must consider.

Sorry, I'm very slow now.

I would plug the hole in the cam endcap so that it can't feed that gallery.
Youre feeding the oil in on the caps, yes?

Yes, 3bond on the screw you've described.

Yes, straight into the cam cover (/caps).

Is there access to plug the gallery from the top? I can't have plugging done for a while, so I'll try the long bolt first.

THANKS  [thumbsup]

There may be an easier way than the bespoke bolt.

If the inside of the hole isn't too nasty a couple of grooves in the 'bolt' with o-rings in them may do it without sealer.
Like the o-rings on the clutch pushrod do.
It's all rather small bits so perhaps impractical.

Depending on how the oil supply to the head is done as far as restrictor holes and the like, there may be no pressure to speak of there and just preventing the filling of a 'leak reservoir' may do it.
