It's looking better and better out there. The interesting thing about any disaster is that it brings both the good and the bad things about your neighbors  Undecided Undecided

that's an interesting statement, Alvin, you feel like extrapolating a bit?

I would hate for anyone to take this out of context and end up offending anyone, but since you ask  Roll Eyes... popcorn popcorn

Within our 2 square blocks in the Montrose live a diverse mix residents that call this eclectic area home – from long time elderly residents to new comers, from professionals, to artists, and just really weird people  Grin.  And,  I’m one of the odd-balls here since my neighbors commented they can’t quite place me - a Ducati riding-Straight ok?-asian guy- that-spends-many hours-digging-in the mud-gardening-and-preserving one-of-the-oldest-smallest-house-in-the-block  laughingdp

The older mostly wooden houses would have the mature trees around them, while the new concrete town-homes do not.  As you can imagine, the older homes had it the worst. The day or two after the aftermath, us folks with the old homes that had the damage banded together and helped each other out.  While the unscathed town-homes folks with their blasting generators just ogled around with their cold beverages, oowing and aahing with amazement. It would have been nice if they at least ask if we would want a cold beverage.  I guess there is truth to the saying, misery loves company and that one can’t really understand something understand you experienced it.

I’m  disappointed that during time of disaster I would expect people to be more sympathetic, forget their differences and help others out; rather than hoard things for themselves.  I blew my fuse and just had to walk away was when I overheard two of the town-home residents chatting away about our predicaments, comparing it to the state of our economy and our socio-political system – something to the effect, ‘’..well, they brought it to themselves, why would the tax payer have to help..”  Having paid my own share of taxes, this just ticked me off.

Hello all - I hope everyone made it OK.  I lucked out with a sagging fence and a dirty lawn.
I know things are improving, but a heads up on easy access to gas and food.  In my neighborhood (Oak Forest - North of 610 on TC Jester), the Kroger has been open since Saturday and has been run pretty efficiently.  Last night they had pallets of ice.   Also, there is a gas station just West of 290 on Dacoma that took me all of five minutes to get through yesterday.

All the best, and hang in there.

I've got my dad coming in on Thursday with a couple of chain saws so we can help out the locals get large branches and trees out of their yards and streets.

If anyone is interested, we can organize a clean-up crew to assist people get their property back in order. Post up if you're interested or call me and we can get a list going. I have power and water at my home so I'll be happy to make this the jump off point, even feed you some samiches and 'tater chips.  Wink   Obviously Alvin has posted his area is in need of help, anyone else with a need please post up and we can make arrangements to form a plan of attack.  waytogo

Folks,

If you have some time over the weekend, I have a couple of elderly neighbors on my block that could use some muscle to haul off some big tree trunks that we have been hacking up over the past few days off their yard and drive way.  They have tried calling a bunch of yard clean-up crew but they are either not available or wanted way too much money.  They have a huge pecan tree and great for bbq, so come on by and take some away for your grill  waytogo waytogo

DesmoLu and El Matador came by the other day to help out.  They were cute, all dressed-up in their workout clothes.  They had to use one of my motorcycle gloves for yard work.  Ok now, we just have to give El Matador a hard time here...Can you believe that it was his First Time using a leaf rake  Wink Wink

howdy all!  i haven't posted mostly b/c i know i'm all alone out here near cypress. i've been thinking about you guys since i know a lot of you live in/near clear lake.  i have power and stuff and would love to help out to anyone, but it's kind of hard to lend a hand when you're 45 minutes away and there's no gas to go anywhere.  :-(  also, i've had to work all week!!  i work for the engineers who know how to put the place back together  applause.  just let me know if there is anything i can do for you!  or if you have someone out here that you'd like for me to check on or something...

Alvin., I find your observations ironically familiar.......seems no matter which part o' the country you're in, when the worst hits it brings out the flippin worst in SOME....but it has been MFHE that alot of "the best" comes out as well.....shit yeah, you looking after your neighbors is an honorable accord.....one you alone will carry as a memory from now on...it ain't about the glory, it's about taking care of each other when we kicked in the package....
