So I live/work in the DC metro area.  There was a little panic today when a 'suspicious' package was reported outside one of the Metro (subway) stops

The suspicious package and bomb squad dude

And after the counter charge

Yep... they defused Yogi

and FYI if you care -
It's a big stuffed polar bear, made up to be like a homeless guy as part of a environmental protest

My first thought was "Who's the guy in the Big Daddy suit?"

I was about to call you out for being a video game nerd and needing to spend more time outside... but then I realized I knew exactly what you were talking about.  I guess it's good my nerd hat fits under my helmet well.

Can they press charges against the environmental group for a de-facto bomb threat? I hope they do, douchebags.

Can they?  Probably... Will they?  Doubtful unless they want the bad press.  Goofy shit like that happens all the time around here - it's just that the powers that be have gotten more knee-jerk about things.  I guess if your job is to keep people safe you can't run on the assumption that a stuffed bear is just a stuffed bear... but there were other times that same bear appeared around DC previously and zippo happened.

I occasionally run with a group that uses flour to mark the trail.  (Flour's biodegradable and goes away fast)  Before we got smart and started adding tempra paint to the mix to make the flour colors besides white there were a few ermmm 'incidents' with people calling in for Anthrax.  Some folks from a similar group up in Mass got in a bunch  of trouble last year since someone had a hissy about flour on the ground... It all strikes me a bite like the ATHF scares a couple years back - yah know the lightbrite boxes..

people are just too panic-y these days. If everyone would just calm down a little the US would be a much better place to live

This place feels nice. Black S4RS, CRG Barend mirrors, vented clutch cover, gold clutch plate, gold pazzo racing levers, full 50m termi system, little carbon extras....oh yeah ...almost forgot....ban corporate coffee!

+1, i thought, hey, why is the bombsquad dude in a civilian clothings? did they only have 1 suit? Why does his face mask look like a bear? Hmm maybe its some sort of snorkle that makes it look like that....wheres the bomb?

OHHH. [bang] [laugh]

I think that's great, look at what a social jammer it turned out to be

lethe

The real bombsquad guy kinda looks like the headless horseman holding a lantern if you squint which makes the picture that much more absurd.
