I was with Progressive for my last few bikes.  When I got my 696 they wanted like $950 a year - based on me saying I was only going to ride 2000 miles a year. HA!

I called Geico.  We insure both family cars through them.  They got me full coverage with the works for around $400 a year.  I told the woman on the phone that I'm going to sound like one of the dumb commercials but "I just saved 500 dollars by switching to Geico".  It made her laugh and I didn't look back.

Progressive was really cheap when getting me my payout for my accident also.  The other driver was found to be 100% at fault and they really didn't want to cover anything and kept telling me to take it up with the other insurance company.  They didn't want to have anything to do with that.  They were really hard to get hold of, didn't want to come out to photograph my gear (The other guy's insurance company sent out an impartial adjuster).  I finally got them to schedule time for me to come in and everyone was out of the office at the scheduled time and I had to sit around and wait for an hour.

You are in TEXAS so you are in luck!!!

Loyds of London offers insurance in Texas via General Electric.

***This is no joke***

They do buisiness as "Electric Insurance"
They do NOT advertise.
You do not need to work for G.E. to get in on the deal.
Another board member here (and also in Texas) turned me on to them -he used to work for G.E.
His wife made several claims in one year -TWO were her fault.  She didn't get "dropped", and her rates never went up.
He said she got great customer service and repairs were made quickly.

I just bought a 350Z and Geico wanted $860 for six months of coverage...
So my buddy said I should give Electric Insurance a call...
(he had also bought a 350Z for his wife for Christmas and knew what his insurance cost was)
Electric wanted $1100 for the whole year of identical coverage!

"I just saved 36% by switching from GEICO"  [laugh]

I'm going to switch my three bikes and my house too!  $$$

Talk to 'em!   [thumbsup]

<edit> Just Googled them and found this:
Quote"Electric Insurance Company is a national writer of personal insurance products including auto, homeowners, renters, condo and umbrella. We were established in 1966 to serve the needs of General Electric employees and have since expanded our offerings to the general public."

-Which means it's not a "Texas only" thing  [thumbsup]

Insurance depends on your zip code (not just state), your record, age, marital status, credit report etc etc.

There is no right answer.

Call up every ins co you can find locally and get a quote.  Ask them for a fax copy and that you are comparing.

When you get a lowball, call up your other preferred co and send them a copy of the quote.

I use Geico for everything.  Whenever they don't give me a good quote, I get other quotes, call them back and tell them I am taking my business (home, 3 cars and 7 bikes) elsewhere.  They always come thru.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

Insurance varies so much by state...

I had Foremost, they were cheapest for a new rider in Washington but wanted over $1900 a year when I bought the Monster (three years' experience riding) so I switched to Progressive.  I didn't know they might lower my rates at renewal--haven't had the Monster a year yet.

Hate State Farm. They told my buddy that his accident wouldn't raise his rates, since it was a one-vehicle accident, sold him a Gap accident policy--then dropped him.  They dropped my sister after a fender-bender while she was working for them fifteen years ago.

Make sure you don't use a broker, You'll pay their extra fees.  Shop on-line with the company directly ( I use progressive ) to avoid fees.
I went to a broker to save some time looking for cheap insurance. I have a clean record and am married. After buying insurance from the broker I found their hidden fees, $200 bucks which I could have avoided if purchased directly.

Find a different broker, the broker is supposed to get commission from the insurance company.  If the broker is large they have purchasing power and can get a better rate.  My broker beat Progressive's direct price by a significant amount.  When Progressive got greedy, one phone call to the broker got me a new company for hundreds less.  Like every other profession, some are good, some are not.

Thanks for the tip, I learned the hard way. I left that broker and did my own dirty work.
