I have a monster 696 that keep leaking oil on the left crank case. This is the second time and it's starting to really aggravate me. The dealer keep having to Re-seal the crankcase to fix the problem. I'm starting to wonder if this is a common issue with the 696. Does anyone know if this is common? or, Am I the only one having this problem. This is my first Ducati and, so far the experienced is not good.

Ghost,

this is the second problem you have said you've gone back to the dealer... ever thought about finding a new dealer to check their work?

Ive had to take mine in three times. Each time they sealed something else. No problems since, though that was all last summer. I too am going to a new dealer to have them look at it, next time.

First time it happened I was told the leak was coming from the bottom of the crank case and they just Re-sealed it and that fixed the problem. This time it look like its between the crank case and alternator cover. I'm waiting for the  dealer to call me so I can find out for sure where it's comming from this time. I did some reading about this issue and, sounds like it is a common problem on the 696. I have less than 3,000 miles on the monster and I been having problem left and right, It's starting to really piss me off.

I've noticed mine is leaking, too.  I'm going to try torquing the bolts and see if that helps; otherwise, off to the dealer I go.

After torquing alll the bolts yesterday and rode it for 300miles leaks gone..

What side of your bike was the oil leak?

I initially had a leak on the left side which was re-sealed by the dealer.  Now I've got a small leak on the right side.  Will have to go over all the bolts with a wrench to see if this cures it.

Do you know the torque specs for those bolts?

Thx.

I experienced a similar leak at the end of last season. My dealer was able to resolve the problem for me. No reoccurrence yet this season.

Yeah i had a little leak on my new Ducati when i purchased it... bullshit quality control.  One of the bolts just needed to be tightened a bit and it went away.  Will be much worst if the leak is dripping versus a leak that is not dripping.  if not dripping just tighten up bolt a bit w/ torque wrench to proper torque but be careful b/c the screw is steel and engine casing is aluminum.
Life is never ours to keep, we borrow it and then we have to give it back.

I haven't torqued my bolts yet, but I've noticed the leak has stopped (for now).  In the event it comes back and I have to torque the bolts, does anyone by chance know what they are supposed to be torqued to?
