Who accepts donated used books?

I have a lot of books (novels, non-fiction, etc.) that I'd like to get rid of.  Who takes old books?  I would hate to throw them away.

many libraries will take them.
at a minimum they will sell them off at one of their book sales

when i moved after living in colorado for 15 years, i donated about 200 paperbacks to the local library.
If you drive the nicest car in the neighborhood, work in a cash business, and don't pay taxes, you're either a preacher or a drug dealer...

I've also donated to nursing homes and schools.
