To all that had lasik...

What did you pay?

To prk specific folks...

How long did it take before you were able to see well enough to get back to working/driving?

I am asking here because I saw another post and lots of people had experience with lasik.  In my case I am looking at getting prk for professional reasons and not because that is what the doc recommended.   From the one consultation I had, they basically said they prefer doing lasik over prk because of the healing time (to where you can see well enough to drive) can run upwards of a month.  I am young and healthy so I would likely heal quick but they still said it is a possibility and I dont know if I can really risk being out of work for a month.

Thanks

In my case, Lasik with wavefront for 2 eyes was $4000 (in CA).  Lasik without wavefront would have been $3000.

I paid $3,200 for the Lasik, and $400 to my eye doctor for all of the pre- and post-op care.

Lasik and PRK were the same price...they didn't have any options as far as equipment goes.

My place preferred to do Lasik as well, but would do PRK if you wanted...or if it was a better option for you (i.e. thin corneas or something). Ease of healing was their reason as well.

I forgot to mention that my price included all the pre- and post-op care (for a year) with my eye doctor.

I had PRK done.  Its been over 4 years and my eyes did regress but a small change.  I just have to wear glasses when its dark.    I think I paid $2300 with lifetime corrections.

I picked PRK because I had high myopia and astigmatism (-6.5 x -1.5) in each eye.  I needed all the cornea I had left.

Healing took some time.  I could not drive the first 1 week.  Especially at night.  Its a trip.  I remember the first time riding at night and Im yelling out at my wife to watch out for that car coming at us head on.  She thought I was going crazy.  Every car with its headlights on looked like they where coming at us head on.

I think it took about 4 or 5 days and I was behind the wheel driving.  The second time I had my eyes redone I think it was only a day or two and I was behind the wheel.  Overall it will take weeks for the eye to heal and each week that went by my sight got better and better.

I chose PRK but research on the type of equipment the clinic carries.  I had 4 different machines I could pick to do one procedure.  The Bausch & Laumb was the machine that match the procedures for my eyes.  The machine was able to treat my high myopia, astigmatism and the important factor to treat a larger area for my large pupil.

Do your homework once its done there is not going back.

I would go to this site and read up on everyone it may help.  http://asklasikdocs.com/forums/index.php
