Hi everyone, I am going to Italy soon and was wondering if a drive to Bologna
to see the Ducati factory is worth while? has anyone done the tour?
and if so what time of year did you go. apparently they are closed for a couple of
months per year.

Highly recommend doing it, even if you are only a casual fan of the marque. It's a _very_ well put together museum and the factory tour is awesome as well. Leave yourself 1/2 a day min for the museum..
I went in Oct, which is a good time seasonally - not as expensive as high season, and still good weather,
The only month you need to watch out for is August (its when practically the whole of Italy goes to the beach for the month - literally).
You really need to book the tour to ensure a place - it's pretty popular and it's free. more info:

The drive from Florence to Bologna is easily done as a day trip (like we did) but I'd highly recommend staying in Bologna for at least a day - it's a very interesting city and the food as (arguably) some of the finest in Italy.
And take heaps of photos and video (like I did) and post it up. I actually filmed my tour guide for the factory tour taking us through the museum - we had a lot of people there as wsbk was in town and they were very overbooked for the tours.
