My tail chop, and other mods

Well here is my 99 M750 Dark. 

Most of the mods were done by previous owners, I recently did the tail chop and removed the hugger.  Also has clip ons and bar end mirrors.

Up next: new blinkers all around, remove the emissions canister and the vent pods

The more I learn, the more I think this is a Frankenstein bike.

I am pretty sure it is in fact a dry clutch, despite the wet clutch housing.  If it is a wet clutch, I've never actually heard a dry clutch, but it sounds like I think a dry clutch should sound.  I thought the gauges might be different too, that's why I took that picture, to see if anyone said anything.

So, let's play, "Where did that part come from!"

If anyone can point out parts that don't belong on a 99 M750, and where that part came from, I would appreciate it.  Other than the obvious mods that is.

road-racing guages and triumph style headlights. THe toptriple/clipons are different, not sure what they are from. the tank latch is black, mine is chrome. id like to get my hands on one of those black ones to be honest.

and your ignition is shaped not the same as mine.


but the chances that the PO converted the bike to dry clutch, but then went and reused the wet housing is slim to none.

why go to all the trouble and work to do a difficult conversion and not show it off in any way? also from the amount of money spent on things like mirrors, turn signals and exhaust, the PO didnt seem like a "just throw money at the bike" kinda guy, no offense. as i said bike looks very good

Top triple is the standard 99 - same on my my 99 M900.
Ignition is the same on my 99. The look changed in 2000.
Clipons are obviously aftermarket.
Tank latch is same as on my M900.
I'd bet a six pack o' beer its a wet clutch though. how on earth would one keep the oil from migrating to the clutch with a wet-clutch cover?


Looks like the footpegs have been replaced as well. Standard was a rubber covered peg. Can't imagine anybody going to the trouble of changing to a dry clutch where the benefit of a dry clutch (quick change) would not be possible, all the while leaving the carb vent pods and emission canister intact.

The footpegs .darks had bare footpegs. I remeber back in 98 spending an afternoon taking  the rubber off my pals because they looked better.

Those clocks just look like standard clocks from that era . yeah the tacho has roadracing on it but i bet its just a stick on dial.

750s have wet clutches.  my mates 98 750ss does anyways.

That's the emissions canister, and those are Roadracing brand gauges - the whole cluster. 99's didn't come with tachs, and the DP gauges are different shaped (I have them). That cluster used to be offered in various billet colors and were a hot commodity.

Well, I have some updates.

I talked to the previous owner, and the bike is in fact a wet clutch.  He was mistaken thinking it was dry.

But anyway, I have a couple more mods to report.

I retrofitted the tail light with LEDs, 54 of them to be exact, and a flasher for when I hit the brakes.  I can post a how-to on that if people are interested.
I also removed the emissions canister and the vent pods.

I tried to get the flashing on video, but it is too fast for my camera.  It flashes 6 times in 1.5 seconds and then is on solid.
