At that price it sounds like it should have a salvage title.  Maybe the owner is clueless of it's actual value.

I personally helped a guy pick up a mint '03 Monster 800 with 3700 miles on it from Craigs list (this was in 2006).
He paid $2800 for it.

You never know!

(the funny part is at the time he wasn't sure if he was getting a good deal or not -I had to talk him into it!    )
