I'll vouch for Frye.  They make excellent boots.

While not exactly "cowboy" boots, I love my pair of harness 12R's.

They're very well made, extremely comfortable, have held up very well so far (3 years), and look great IMO.

Nacona makes boots the old fashioned way.  You choose the heel & toe (pointy or not) and they are reasonable.
Fretz Enterprises in Souderton, PA is where we've bought his boots. $150 - 250 depending on what they're made out of.  hubby bought a pair of deerskin and they were soft as butter (and didn't last long!!!).  He loves the elephant hide boots.  They take a while to soften enough to fit - but once they fit they can be re-soled.  Fretz's sells them at a discount and will send them back for repair.  Repairs are like $75 - 90, but it's cheaper than buying new boots.  He's had the elephants repaired 5 or 6 times.

I love my Nacona boots.

another benefit : his feet don't stink   ;D
Sneakers in size 16 were bobos.  Boots = +10 on the coolness scale.

Thanks for all the helpful and informative posts . I'll have to do some thinking because I've looked at several sites and there are sure a lot to choose from. Boots from a little more than $100 to a little more than $3000 .

Lucchese has a size chart for their boots. Most of the sites I've looked at have liberal return policies like Zappos. com whom I've done business with for other footwear. Dolph    :)

Quick google and Rod's is in your area and they carry many of these brands.  boots aren't like duc parts online savings generally aren't more than 10-20 bucks or so.   I'd suggest heading in and seeing what fits best.

cheers

Hi Cowboy, I found a site , grapevinehill.com that is having a 20,09 % off Sale on Lucchese and ordered a pair of $1000 Caiman boots for $342. The site advertises prices on all the different brands they carry like Lucchese and Frey Boots at 30-60 % off retail everyday.

I saw them on Ebay and they had like 504,000 sales w, a 99.8 % positive rating so I figured they were worth the chance. I was pleasantly surprised to see their prices and then to see that I could get another 20.09% off to boot (no pun intended ) was to hard to pass up.

They had some of all of the Lucchese models such as the Classics , 1883s ,20000s etc. They call it their 2009 Stimulus Sale thus 20.09% off.

Sheplers had the nicest looking Lucchese boots but their prices were much higher and they weren't shipping until late March.  Zappos had a Lucchese Caiman boot but they had it discounted from $1100 to $700 something.

I like the idea of the cone design that Lucchese uses to build their boots. and I like the small squared off toe look for a pair of Black Lizards I want to get .

The sale runs through the end of the month.

Another thing, grapevinehill had at the time , 6 pages of Lucchese boots in my size. Zappos had 4 boots in my size.

Lucchese seems to be fairly light in weight , 24 ounches for a pair ...I would have thought Boots would have been heavier.       Dolph       :)

I decided to get these Caiman Lucchese 1883s . They seem to fit me snug in the instep just as the advertisment says they should. I bought them on-line from grapevinehill.com for $342 after the sale discout. Free Ground shipping. I had them in 2 days.

I'm wondering how the same size boot in Nocona will fit me or Old Gringo ?   Dolph      :)
