Sorry I kind of fell off the earth for a while. On what would have been my first day back to work after the holidays, I was riding my bicycle to work when a taxi pulled into the intersection to turn right. I braked hard to avoid them, locked up the front wheel, and slammed into the pavement. Some guy in a car stopped and helped me out of the road, and after sitting there for a few minutes I walked home (something the orthopedist later informed me most people wouldn't have been able to do). Turns out my humerus was broken into 4 pieces, and it's now held together with a bunch of screws and a plate. I've spent most of the last 3 weeks propped up on pillows in bed and am just now starting to feel human again. And of course I had to catch a bad cold after the surgery too.

I've finally been given permission to begin using the fingers of my right hand a little, and am starting to do a bit of work from home. I still can't sit up at a desk for more than a few minutes but I got a setup that lets me work reclined. Now if I could just type with both hands! How ironic is it that in all my years on motorcycles I never got injured, but manged to thoroughly break myself on my bicycle at low speed?

Sorry to hear that.
Anything on two wheels around her is dangerous. I hope you can/will get back on both soon.

For what it's worth, I've done far more damage to myself on a bicycle, than I ever did on a motorcycle. Let me know if you need any bike parts.

Heal quick, kiddo!

Thanks everyone! I'm pretty well taken care of, just frustrated by not being able to do much of anything. i'd been considering the purchase of long underwear with T-Pro armor just a couple of weeks before this, and when I'm cleared to ride again, I'm getting it. Sure it's really made for motorcycling and people will laugh at me...I'm pretty sure my injury would have been much less severe if I'd had it.

Duckwrench, the bike is completely undamaged! The only thing besides me that suffered was my jacket.

What, you don't have enough cripples to deal with?

What you said...

Plus I thought I'd start a collection...  Grin

Heard Susan just dropped her 1098 today after a driver suddenly braked in front of her.  Thank goodness she's okay though!  And Jay should be able to walk again on Feb. 20th...

Don't go throwin' yer hard earned $$$ at moto gear to use for cycling just yet. I've got it on very reliable authority that a major Italian protective gear company is developing cycling specific apparel. I'm not talking downhill gear, but normal roadie stuff.
