My friend got hit by a bird while cruising around town. He almost dropped it and he had a huge bruise on his chest from the strike.

And so were many other organic things.  Many of which now make my bike run.   waytogo

I ment in the airways. Although come to think of it there are probably more birds within 10 feet of the ground than higher up.

I almost hit a Turkey Vulture ! Damn thing tried to puke on me after I got under it.

You know how this goes . You come hard 'round a corner and there in the middle of the road is some road kill with 3 or 4 Turkey Vultures ( here in Ohio there are a lot of them )  on it and I just nail it and the birds see you but they are so big it takes them a second or two to get off the ground and by then I'm all over them and they freak and puke as they are just barely getting out of the way .

It's fun until somebody gets hurt or puked on.    Dolph   Smiley

Bird strikes happen on a daily basis.  Ingesting multiple Canadian geese into both engines of a commercial airliner is thankfully very rare.  Working in a heavy maintenance environment on commercial jet engines, I see it all the time.  Most of the time, there is little to no damage.  Occasionally fan blades need to be replaced.  Other times, the engine needs to be pulled and sent in for repair.  Very rarely the engine has to be shut down in flight.

Last year one of my engines was the key attraction for a group of high school students on a career day.  It was covered in what looked like dried up pulled pork, all that was left of multiple birds.  The best part, the engine had no performance indication of a bird stirke having occured and was pulled for unrelated reasons.

I nearly got a crow in the face a few years ago. Bastard was going straight for my visor, then veered within about 10 feet. I ducked, but there wasn't much room to get my head down on my VFR400R. I, and the bird, lived for another day; one day we will meet again and I will exact my elaborately planned revenge.
