Hello-  i've found a speedo/tach assembly and i'm wondering if it will be compatible on my bike.

here's the scenario:

My bike: a 1999 Monster, originally a carbed 750 but i swapped a 1994 (carbed) 900 motor into it.

The speedo/tach for sale: 2006 Monster, no engine size is specified, but EFI for sure.  Part number: 406.1.026.1c

any help is greatly appreciated as i went onto the ducati.com site to compare part numbers and of course, 1999 is not on the list....

thanks!!

No, you have a cable driven speedo iirc. That will be an electronic pickup

I doubt the plug would fit.

Bergweiserus

argh....yeah, mine's cable driven.

any ideas where i can get a cable tach for not too much money?

The tach is electronic.

Do you have a tach currently? Does your current speedo work?

I do not have a tach currently; since the bike used to be a 750, it didn't come with a tach that year.
yes- my current speedo works...why?

so do you want to just add a tach, or a new completed unit?

well- i'm under the impression that i'm going to have to go with a completed unit because the 1999 750 unit didn't have the space for the tach; just a hole for the speedo and a rectangular idiot light group.  no tach on that bike.

i wonder if i can get the housing and tach and just add the speedo that i already have on the bike?

If you have some jingle in your pocket and some skills:

Two here - http://motogadget.com/us/frameset.html
and
http://www.spatechnique.com/product_pages/index.cfm

Analogue tach with a digital speedo in one unit and you get to keep the old dash.  Just an idea.

I do know of the newer speedo/tach housings being used with the earlier speedo and tach inside, just drill and dremel out the appropriate areas. but that doesnt solve the actual tach issue, but if the price is right it gets you closer

this is probably the option i'm looking at.
i haven't seen any used speedo/tach housings for the '99 monster...soooo time to drill & dremel!

thanks for the suggestions, everyone.  Howie- those instruments from spatechnique are incredible.

If you can find one (got mine off ebay) an Al. or carbon dash with a tach will work with your speedo. And yes the tach is electronic (wires to the coil) but has to be from a carbed bike.
