Remove old tank protector

Hi everybody,

Does anyone have an idea of how to remove an old tank protector (+ adhesive) without damaging the paintwork of my Monster  :)

How about using a hairdryer?  ;)

You can use just about anything that is made to remove adhesives (i.e. Goo Gone) as long as it isn't a Dark model.  Once the adhesive is cleaned off, the area where the protector was may be more glossy than the rest of the tank due to the rest of the tank fading and weathering out.  If that is the case, a quick buffing of the tank will fix that, and finish with a coat of wax.
If you have a Dark model, you will need to try something else.
Some people are like slinky's.  They serve absolutely no purpose, but they always bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

So petrol, acetone, alcohol...they will all do as well, without affecting the paint?

None of the things you just mentioned are the best choices. They shouldn't hurt the paint, but they won't take off the adhesive very well either.

Usually, if you use a hairdryer or heat gun, the adhesive comes off with the protector.

Go easy with a heat gun, the industrial-strength ones can get *really* hot.

I think I'll go for the hairdryer + WD-40 solution...the dryer is of no use to my girlfriend anyway :-D

Acetone is likely to mess-up your paint.

I removed the tank protector two days ago.

I could take it off by just peeling with my nails :-)

I used the WD-40 to remove the glue remains...but I would recommend everyone to save the WD-40 till the very end (gets messy otherwise)

try sawing at it with dental floss after heating it up with a hairdryer or leaving it in the sun for awile. after that you can get the glue off with goo gone or just soap and a sponge.
