OK, so here is another "issue" I am having.  Seems to be a theme these days.  I opted for the TechSpec tank grip for my Monster since SO found some used for his Speed Triple and really liked them.  I originally was going for the Stomp Grip-I seem to have a grip issue, maybe from years of horse training, and REALLY grip at times to point I am wearing paint off tank in fact  bang head

SO got his used, these are transferrable and his only lost bit of grip at top edges-no biggie.  I found mine new, cut and made to fit the 696, followed installl directions, but they FALL OFF!!  Usually overnight in garage thankfully however. But these ARE sticky as hell, so not making a lot of sense here.  Once, one did begin to fly off while I was on interstate tho also!
Anyone have these on their 696 and having any issues?  And then, any suggestions for keeping these ON without damage to paint/tank???

Thanks again all.   chug

I have techspec on both of my bikes - love the stuff!  Surface  prep + >70F install temperature + cure time prior to first use is all critical.  Sounds like you might need to start over and reapply.  For prep I washed the tank with soap/water, dried, wiped down with 3M Adhesive Remover and then finally wiped with isopropyl alcohol.  Probably overkill, but...

not sure HOW to start over now....to remove, there is a lot of the sticky stuff on tank, very little on pads themselves now  bang head

I will say, hubby followed instructions to a T, and being in FL, the temps were easy to work with of course. Hmm.  Thinking of posting some pix now also...showing sticky stuff, how they slide then fall off etc  Huh?

Ohhh and some more important info:

instructions NAWT clear about a "layer" of sticky tape on pads...noted only after they fell off few times btw.....  some of this layer would stay on tank, most stay stuck on pads....  so on one pad, removed that layer, thinking we should have in beginning, but again instructions not clear on this.
Anyways...neither situation made it any better.
so, suggestions on how to start over would be much appreciated  chug cuz I LUV these thangs and would like to use them on track and interstate speeds!

Yikes!  I didn't have any of those problems, but I have not needed to remove mine yet.  I found the manufacturer to be very responsive, so they might have some suggestions for you, or maybe it's a quality issue and requires replacement.

I'm wondering how many people have applied this to a plastic tank.  I would imagine that whatever adhesive they use would be made for traditional metal tanks.  Maybe the plastic tank panels on the 696 are just the wrong material.  Has anyone else done this with the 696 (or any other bike with a plastic tank)?  I wonder because I want to order the same thing for the same bike.  Good luck NekkedChic!

I have them on my 1098. It has a plastic tank. I looooove them.

Prepping the area prior to installing is key. You have to remove any and all wax that may be on the panel. Wash with a good soap, rise thoroughly. I also used a clean lint free cloth with a little rubbing alcohol applied to it,  then allowed it to dry in the sun for a few moments before placing the pads on.

If you pealed the adhesive from the pad...you may be screwed. Contact TechSpec and they will advise you on your options.

When I had issues with my pads adhering after changing the bikes paint color...... they were more than helpfull in resolving my problem.

I've been using Tech-Spec on my S2R1k tank (plastic) for over a year, with no problems.

Thanks all  waytogo

Someone first mentioned (non Duc person albeit) it MAY be the plastic tank and/or something Ducati uses as finish/protectant, even mentioned old Corvette paint issues similar.

Now just thinking may have been install issues and possible a "bad set" combination?
Calling TechSpec this am, ASAP....now they fall off EVERYWHERE  bang head including in DIRT in parking lot Sunday, so gotta fix this now

Really prefer these over StompGrips so whatever it takes, without harming bike paint, I will do.

In meantime, anyone with suggestions on tank adhesive for these for when I start over after I clean everything off?  THANKS AGAIN!

UPDATE! and great news.
I called TechSpec and had to leave message.  Dean returned call in about an hour.  He informed me I had received a set from a "bad batch"!!!  I knew we had done everything correctly, so this is a big relief.  They are shipping me a replacement kit ASAP!!  He gave explicit directions on cleaning off old adhesive and prepping for new install as well.
Altho I am bit disappointed that I got a "lemon" set, I am impressed with TechSpec's customer service, communications and eagerness to keep a customer happy!

I really luv these grips-far better than the StompGrips EVERYone has, so anxiously await to be using these again soon.

Thought I would update all, especially anyone out there considering getting these to give you a big thumbs up and the comfort in spending your cash on these!

I will post pix when I have these back on again  waytogo

Thanks again all for your help with this as well.  bow down
