I don't think it is the bolts sheering or kickstand breaking that people are worried about.  Apparently you can crack/break the engine case because the bolts are stronger than the cast aluminum they are screwed to.

Why is everyone so concerned with this Aerostich deal 'pivoting' the bike on the sidestand alone?   ???

You don't use this to spin the bike around.  (though I've seen that done on non-Ducati bikes)  It simply gets the rear wheel off the ground so you can spin the wheel freely and lube the chain.  The bike is still supported on 3 points.

I see lots of people leaning their asses against their Monsters when parked, and that adds a little stress to the sidestand.   ;D  I can't believe that this Aerostich deal would somehow pose a greater risk of shearing the sidestand pivot or cracking the engine case.

Shit, the i.d. of the axle on my S4R is 30mm, so the L&L won't work -- the axle hole has to be 11-26mm.  :-\

I still don't have a rear stand for my bike.  I have a 2 ton hydraulic floor jack that I put right under the front mounting bolt of my right rearset and jack it up until the back tire comes up enough.  I was nervous at first so I had someone stand behind the bike while I stood in front of it and shook it around a litle bit.  No problem.  The side stand will be just fine and I think you probably put more stress on the swingarm mounting bolts simply by riding the thing.  I realize it's going to twist the rear axle a bit (by comparison to riding it where the stress is all vertical) but I doubt it will be a problem for the 3 minutes it should take to lube your chain.  I say go for it.

If your hole is too big for the lift and lube, then maybe you don't even need lube anymore.

I'll leave you to be the expert on that subject.

A short piece of aluminum tube 1 1/8" dia  x .065 wall, would take up the clearance.
