? for those who have painted their stock cans

Yo!!!!

I decided to core and paint the stock cans on my 05 M620D.  After much reading and discussing, i am going to go with a full core, no baffles, AND i think I'm gonna chop the hell outta the cans    I'm thinking about having them end about even with the passenger foot pegs are.  I need to clean up that sloppy rear end.

My question is, is there a recommended method to painting the stock cans to ensure a long lasting paint job?  Any hints/tips?  How about any Do's/Dont's?  I just want the paint to last under reasonable wear and tear so i don't need to repaint them too often.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

On my old M620 I just cleaned them, gave them a light sand with a very fine sandpaper (can't remember what I used), and painted them with flat black BBQ paint. It lasted fine.

  I powdercoated mine, but any high temp paint should hold up well with proper prep work. Definately sand the area to be painted and let it cure. I would suggest useing an oven for a short bake. But since it's your exhaust just reinstall and fire it up.

Paint away using all the above techniques, I have gone with the BBQ stuff and it burned off. I highly recommend using the VHT flame proof paint. will not burn off. Plus the short stock cans in black is awesome. I'll post pics of mine later tonight.

I just chopped mine as well(sounds awesome), I got FastBlack-designed for engines/exhaust to 1500F from local dealer. I haven't used yet, but others say it works awesome, but smells like fish oil (you know it's got to be good then).
