OK, ok... I know! stupid. BUT, I connected the + to the -/ - to the + just for about 4 seconds, then fixed immediately. It did spark once when I attached. This is from a trickle charger, not a car...

Now, I left it on to charge, and the light says fully charged, but the key won't light up the yellow light/start.... It's a 07 695. Thanks for any feedback  - including ideas about what i've done/cost to repair! ugh!!! So sad! Was to be the first ride of the year!

Check fuses. You blew one.  If your fuse did not blow , you melted some wires.

+1 on the fuses
When I got my 996 it wouldn't start...

the battery had been hooked up backwards...

Lot's of fuses blown...

Along with a fried ecu. :-\

Hope you're good to go with some fuses.

Damn. No luck... Not a fuse. So it was dead before I obviously tried to charge it- someone mentioned that I need the red master key? Is this true? Or is my standard black key ok? So... Fried ECU.. What that take to fix?!

Ugh.

Hooking the battery itself up backwards to the bike is one thing, but just momentarily connecting a trickle charger  backwards to a correctly connected battery shouldn't do any real harm.  Especially if it's a relatively good trickle charger like a Battery Tender - I think they have a circuit that immediately senses a reversed connection.

It's a shot in the dark, but try disconnecting the battery for a few moments and then reconnecting it.  Also clean the battery terminal connections while you're at it and then try again.

If you don't have one, you can get small very portable volt/ohm meters for cheap at places like Radio Shack.  Very handy for checking battery voltage and resistance across connections and fuses.

Most decent modern chargers have polarity protection to prevent damage.  If yours does not, you could have the problems painter did, i a little depends on luck.  Did you check the separate 30 amp fuse by the right sde of the battery?

Did you check ALL the fuses?  The is a mains fuse that is not part of the accessories fuse box - it's off on it's own.
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

Hmm.. OK, I check all on the right side of the bike, just lateral to the battery itself - maybe about 8 there? Anyhow, I wil go hunt for more... :) Thanks.

The main fuse is a lot larger than the rest.

Hey! thanks everyone for the help! It WAS the main fuse! (plus an ultra dead battery that I replaced).

Lovely ride today :)
