I have a 2003 620ie which has CRG leavers on. The problem is the dealer took of the switch on the clutch so I can only start the bike in neutral. With the clutch pulled in, stand up and ignition on, when its in gear it wont start.

I found the two wires where the switch used to connect to and if I bridge the two wires I can now start the bike when its in gear.

The question is: With the wires bridged there will always be 12v on the wires compared to when the switch is installed on the clutch you would only have 12v on the wires when you engage the clutch. Will I cause damage to the system with 12v continusely on it?

Thanks

dont know the answer, but if it really worries you, there are aftermarket kits available to "bipass" the kickstand/ignition switch.

or maybe a more tech savy member can tell you another way to do it.

People with CRGs have jumped that pair before - to defeat the interlock.  No one has come back and reported any negatives that I have seen.  But long term... who knows.
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

if you bridge the wires, and you have 12v on the wires constantly, then it's like the switch is constantly engauged.
which means, if my logic is correct, that if you were to accidently hit the start button with the bike in gear, it would try to start as if the clutch WERE pulled in...

now, i've never started a bike in gear without the clutch pulled in, but i'm assuming this would not be pretty...

There will be no power running through the wires until you hit the starter button with the key on.

Just be careful if someone else gets on your bike.  I have had a couple of people almost run my Monster through the garage door because they trust all those safety devices.

I have the same problem with my 620ie when I change to leavers. To solve it, you will need to replace the original switch to a micro switch. Can get the switch from ducati.

+ 1 on all statements. The jumper you installed essentially closes the circuit. All power is fed thru the main ingnition key. So 12V power is not constantly feeding thru that circuit.

That being said. Dont make it overly complicated with micro-circuits and such. This issue is better solved by starting training yourself to always pull the clutch in when starting the bike.

More complications lead to more points of failure.

Personal opinion: 99% of the time I start my bike when its on the kickstand and put my gear on while it warms up. If its on the kickstand, the kickstand interlock will prevent the bike from starting even if it is in gear. As always, different strokes for different folks.

Since I am a dumbass and would need the safety if I were you, I would call or email CRG and see if they would either send you the tab that operates the switch or exchange the lever for you.

If you are handy, you could even make one out of sheet metal.

i never rely on the kickstand safety mechanism.... plenty of people on here have turned their key on while on the sidestand, seen the green neutral light, and hit the start button, only to find that the bike was in fact in gear and attempts to start itself, which then causes the bike to lurch forward and pop up the kickstand and eat concrete.
