Hi CAMmers,

I've seen some chatter about bicycling on here before so I thought there might be some interest in this. A friend of mine runs a charity ride from DC to Bethany Beach every summer. I wanted to do it last year but I ended up volunteering to drive a chase car instead because for some reason I had a big clunky boot holding my leg together...

The ride is very well organized and was a blast to be a part of. There are plenty of sponsored happy hours to keep all the riders/volunteers busy at the beach after you complete the ride. If you are interested in riding or volunteering, the website is www.biketothebeach.org. Let me know if you sign up because I would be interested in some group rides leading up to the event, since I have never done anything like this before.

Or if you just want to help sponsor me...

is this a 2 day or 3 day ride? (120 miles makes me ask...I am betting 2 day)

also, can 1 volunteer to ride motorcycle monitor like FatGuyRacer does for bike races?

I would be very interested in doing this ride...I know there are many groups that get together for "group rides" in addition to more froggy rides.  Let me know if you are interested in details.

It's a one day ride. It departs just outside the beltway in PG county at like 3 or 4am and I think people start arriving at the beach around noon. A bus takes everyone and their bikes from Annapolis to the intersection of rt 50 and rt 404 (since you can't ride a bike over the bridge). I think they only use chase CARS since they need people to be able to carry the supplies for each check point. But you can email bdalley@biketothebeach.org to see if they have any use for a chase motorcycle this year.

They also have buses that drive everyone and their bikes back to the starting point on Friday night if you don't want to make other arrangements to stay at the beach for the weekend and find a ride home.

Hey Zooom, the corrert term is Moto Marshall. I would love to do a cycling event like this, but I have zero time to fundraise. Is there an option for buying out that part?

I'm sure you could just sponsor yourself. They don't care where the money comes from. They make it pretty easy to raise money by giving you your own donation web page. Then you just have to spam everyone you know, and post links on your favorite message boards ;)

Bumping this thread...

I finally got a road bike and went on my first real ride today. Went from Howard University to Old Anglers Inn in Great Falls, VA and back. It looks like it was about 30 miles. I'm gonna try to keep adding a few miles to each weekend ride so I can work my way up to the 120. If anyone else still wants to do this ride, don't forget to sign up soon. Or if you just want to do a local ride with me send me a PM. I don't have a car though so all of my rides will be starting at my house.
