Dude, I'm one year older than you and I grew up on the Beatles. My wife was born in 1980 and she's a bigger fan than me...

There should also be options for Woody Guthrie and Boobies.

While I disagree that Woody has had more of an influence on popular music than the Beatles, there can be absolutely no question whatsoever that boobies have been the primary driving force behind most musicians' desire to perform since the beginning of time. MJ may actually be a major exception here.

A bit off-topic:

You know you're old when your kid says "Hey, dad - did you know Paul McCartney was in a band before Wings?"

You know you're really old when your kid says "Hey, dad - did you know Paul McCartney was in a band?"

You know you're truly ancient when your kid asks "Hey, dad - who is Paul McCartney?"

My 14 year-old is a major fan. My 47 y/o wife doesn't like them at all. I think it's more of a taste thing than an age thing (my kid has musical taste, my wife not so much.)

madonna, U2, Nirvana, pearl jam - they have had more of an impact on popular music rock and pop.
surely not the beatles

Monster Dave

Regardless of this poll, the fact still stands that Thriller is the best selling album in history.

and no band/singer will ever come close.

michael jackson isn't a band, but he did collaborate on a single with a beatle.

also, could you give it a rest already? It's cool you like(d) the guy, but it's getting to be a one note horn. It's not that big if a deal except that one note is constantly tooting.

You kinda discredit yourself by saying that, so I can't help but feel you are lashing out a bit, Beck.  I think you need a hug.  And a vintage Pepsi.

I would find something for Madonna, but it is widely believed that Madonna was strongly influenced by Madonna before Madonna was popular.

I grew up with the Beatles starting in 1964.

Before that everything was just " poppy " as far as Popular music i.e. Top 40 ( what you heard on the radio ) .

After the Beatles there were all kinds of bands from Great Britian like the Rolling Stones mainly but it spanned all the bands that sprung up in the USA like the Beach Boys , Beau Brummels, Knickerbockers , Vogues, Loving Spoonful, more than I can type here . Then all the bands like Credence Clearwater Revival , Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, The Byrds, Mountain ,Grand Funk Railroad, Boston, Allman Brothers, Cream, Traffic, Who, Them, Deep Purple, Kinks, The Animals, Mommas and Papas, Traffic, C,S,N,and Young. Santana, Ten Years After, Jethro Tull, Uriah Heep, Jerry and the Pacemakers , The Dave Clark 5 , ELO, Fleetwood Mac,  The Yardbirds . Led Zeppelin, and on and on , and on.

I think what the Beatles gave "POP " music is...... melody !

My question would be then, who changed " POP " music more .The Beatles in the less than 10 years they were together and all the Bands they spanned in Great Britain of which I've only mentioned a small number , same here in the US, just a small number mentioned.

Now MJ, you be the judge.                            Dolph
