Do you have 2 separate keys?

so I just bought monster 900.
It came with 2 sets of keys. (4 keys total)
one key is for ignition and the other key is for the tank and rear.

I thought this was strange. but the owner says some bikes are like that.
I asked local ducati shop and he said it has one key for everything.

It was the result of some lowlife stealing it from me and drilling out the ignition switch.

the come the factory with 1 key that fits all the locks...the owner is telling a lie, or is a dumb ass. I would want to kno why the bike is like this.

could be stolen bike...

recovered/auction bike, fixed, and being sold legit...

rebuild bike?  frame/ignition sourced from different donors...

Or it could be that the ignition went out and the legal owner sourced a cheaper used ignition and key set.  I did this on my last bike.  Total BS that 'it came that way', though.

I would take it to a good locksmith and have the locks modified so that they all match.  It's not that hard to take all of the locks off, which should be easier for the locksmith than taking the whole bike in.  It is probably easier to modify the seat lock and gas cap lock and leave the ignition alone.  Those other two locks don't use as many of the tumblers as the ignition.  In fact, any Ducati key seems to work to open the seat lock on an ST2.  People have been known to rearrange all of the seats when a group of Ducati ST bikes are all parked together.

Thats how my 944 was too. legit bike. One for the tank and rearset and one for the ignition. it was a 95 900.

Either the ignition or tank/seat locks were replaced instead of all three, most likely the ignition.  A whole lock set is expensive.  If I needed to, I would do the same.
