My thing is, if he is involved in a collision, he could be ejected from the vehicle much like someone who is in a convertible with no seatbelt...

The chair itself is supposed to be locked to the vehicle. I would expect the guy to have a seat belt on his wheel chair too but most of the people I've seen in wheel chairs don't use them if they have them. Also, the standard seat belt on a wheel chair probably wouldn't be strong enough to hold you in if you were in an accident. I think he's make the beast with two backsed.

Maybe im make the beast with two backsed up for saying this, but ive ridden my bike up and down the block without a helmet. it feels like freedom. nothing like it. but the dude cant even walk, in his mind, he probably doenst care, the feeling is worth the risk.

or he has a special wheelchair to prevent ejection.

the first one sounds cooler though.

I'm here for a good time, but not a long time.

I'm with you. I know everyone has heard a horror story of the SUV whacking someone at 10mph and putting them in wheelchair or killing them but whatev. Pedestrians get run over by cars (a lot where I live). Bicyclists get hit by cars. Fecal matter happens. I'm not wearing gear for the possibility someone might run over me because I don't live my life in fear of freak accidents.

I've gone down at 30mph on my bicycle and only lost a little bit of skin. So at 30mph and less, I do the legal minimum - a helmet. I've descended at 55 mph but realize that would have hurt a lot. Fortunately, that never happened.

You dont need a helmet on any trike.
and the seatbelt depends on the kind of trike.
Car or bike based car does bike doesnt

They're built upon your own motorcycle, modded.  Here's a cockpit view:

Helmet? Ejection? Really guys?

That REALLY isnt that big a concern, not to most guys I have known that are Para. Just the IDEA that you could ride again makes it really not a concern that you might fall down go boom. Dont ride because you might get ejected is really pretty dumb.

Dont ride because you might crash, and you kinda miss the point. Dont you think? its about risk management, not avoidance.
