showing heman these pics, but anyone else have this problem?

Bike was making a rubbing noise in the belt area, doing the 6k maintence this is what it looked like.
Looks like the horizontal belt was rubbing the belt covers, belt was slightly slid off the pully. First time working on a duc and I'm guessing this was not normal...guessing that belt went out of the proper tension and slid a little bit.

umm...? yeah

Looking at the tensioner pulley, it pulled the sleeve away from it's original place. Also looks like it hopped the ridge on the outter crank pulley. Def a tension problem, and maybe an alignment issue somewhere, I would have it checked out by an experienced mechanic.

good luck and let us know the culprit

+ 1 Def a tension problem. If you bought the bike new and had a shop do the 600 service I would take it there and have a serious talking to with the mech. I'm surprised you didn't jump any teeth.

Airborne

I bought the bike lightly used from a shop, it had the 600 done by their mechanics and this is the first time I've opened since. I have new belts on order, glad I caught the problem and can sort it out before it got worse but hey thats what the service intervals are for.

The bike went out of warranty in april. I really dont see a reason to get involved with the shop right now as I'm doing this myself so whatever.

so youre saying this sleeve isnt supposed to be like this? If I look at the vertical belt which doesnt appear to have a problem, the sleeve is the same exact way.

Could be the pic (can't see the upper roller clearly with the shadow to compare) but the lower roller doesn't look like it has a bolt holding it on.  Do the other 3 rollers have a bolt holding them on and look different?  Is there a nice little circle worn into the belt cover where it's been rubbing?  If I remember correctly it's not a 6 sided bolt, just two flats to get the wrench on.

the rollers that bolt into the case have that 2 sided flat bolt on them as you said. The two tensioners both do not have any type of bolt, they look exactly the same. Either I'm missing two bolts, or it came from the factory like that, each equally possible  :-\

Nope, probably right.  I was thinking of the stationary one in my head.  Sometime my photographic memory fails a little.

Good on you for recognizing the bike's cry for help. How many people would have just ignored that until catastrophic failure?

I'll email you a picture of my belts / tensioner tonight, so you can see what I mean about the pulleys.
