I just droped of my heads to have the exhaust port, combustion chamber and valves ceramic coated.
I ask the guy out of curiosity how it was done, he joked that what he tells everyone is if they give him 200 K hell sell em the business..  I joked back that ifyou can build a bomb from info on the net I'm sure I can find out...
but I cant!  :)

any help?  [beer]

Fancy!

I'm not sure about there's any differences for internal parts, I've just looked at headers and such.  But basically, it's all about the prep.  The surfaces that are to be coated are scoured either via hand, machine or media blast to clean off anything - dirt, sealers etc.  Once it's prepped, then the ceramic is applied.  I read about various application method, dipping spray, even daubed on in tight areas.  Once it's on it's cured and voila.

Here's some more info - though no real how to's

I found this one which aint to bad.

I'm also having the piston skirts done as well as the crowns..

Also, I'm getting the outside of the heads and barrels done in a thermal transfer coating (black).

Part of the reason I was having the internals ceramic coated was because I was gunna have the externals powder coated and I wanted em to stay cool as possible so as not to effect the powder coating. The guy at the ceramic coaters reckons that the powder coating will hold the heat in and suggested the thermal transfer coating, so I decided to go with it.

All up its costing about $450aus

doesn't ceramic coating add thickness? how is the going to affect the clearances on your valves/pistons?

This is a good question. I know that ceramic coating the tops of the pistons helps protect the piston from  heat and there aren't any real clearance issues.  But coating the piston skirt seems like a different story.

the place I went to does heaps of performance cars and bike with good results. He told me that its a thin layer and dosn't cause any dramas. I've seen a few Ducati's with the treatment and they reckon its a good thing..

I had some exhaust pipes coated, and they (Performance Coatings) specifically warn against scrubbing the pipes too vigorously, because the coating is so thin.
