Looking at these mirrors for m696.  http://www.motowheels.com/italian/myproducts.cfm?parentcategoryid=605%7CLighting%2C%20Turn%20Signals%2C%20%26%20Mirrors&productID=5743&showDetail=1&categoryID=608|Mirrors&vendoridtodisplay=0&filterFor=&collection=605%7CLighting%2C%20Turn%20Signals%2C%20%26%20Mirrors

What size collet do I need?  Thanks

I was actually just wondering the same thing.

Hex wrenches are measured from flat to flat, right? I just tried sticking a 14mm hex in the stock bar and it was obviously way too small. 17mm was a bit too big, but would have probably fit well if the corners were rounded off (i.e. lowest measurement all the way around).

Confusing bit is it sounds like they send you a "kit" ...

The kit  includes 17-19mm which fit inside 98% of all bars.
but then why would they ask for a size?

My guess is the description is a cut & paste job.

Whatever you do, don't pick 14mm—it sounds like whatever size you pick you can always remove the collet for the same effect (now how's it work without a collet Huh?). Also, if I couldn't fit a 17mm hex into the bar (however redneck my research is), I don't think the interior diameter could possibly be 19mm.

I'd go with 17mm, but am not ordering these for the stock bar (it won't be long before someone chimes in with the precise answer, anyway).

I do believe the OD of the stock steel 696 handle bars is 22mm(7/8ths).  I'd be surprised if the 17-19mm didn't fit, as 22mm(7/8ths) is the most common bar size.

FYI, some of the aluminum bars have pretty small ID's as compared with the OD, to make up for the difference in Tensile strength.  My Napoleon's won't fit anything but steel without modification, due to the smaller ID of an AL bar.

Yes, that's the outer diameter. The question is about the inner (collet size). Wink

This is the response I got from moto for the same question concerning the bar-end turn signals.
