Proper RPM usage?

I have 2000 monster 900 ie.
I don't use high rpm for big engine bike since there is enough power, plus I don't like more vibration from the high rpm.
sometimes I switch the gears at 3000 rpm.

Is there a minimum rpm I should worry about to avoid damaging clutch disc?
what about max rpm I should avoid using it frequently?

Recently, I fell in love with going over 7000 rpm.
when I go over 7000 rpm, the sound switches from growling to screaming and it really turns me on  [moto]
(I have arrow muffler)

so let me know about proper rpm for daily drive and racing , thanks

I say keep it below the redline and have fun.

As long as the engine isn't lugging then your RPMs are high enough.

Min RPM to avoid damaging the clutch?  Nope, there is no direct correlation between engine RPM and clutch wear/damage *when* the clutch is fully engaged.  Sure, if you're slipping the clutch at 100% throttle... it's gonna burn up.

Obviously, Higer RPMs  = more heat, so it'll shorten the overall life of your oil.  But generally if you keep up the maintenance sporting trips up to the redline really do no harm.  Obviously, cruising around at 7K in 1st gear is a poor plan.  But if your in the twistys... jsut gen on it and stop looking at your tach  [thumbsup]
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

I had a '00 900ie, and always found that the motor was happy as long as it was above ~3000rpm.

I try to keep my S2R 1k above 4k. 80mph equals about 5k in 6th.

I try to keep it above 3500rpm on my S2R1000. I find that the bike shakes and vibrates too much below that engine speed.

all ducatis have a great sound when you get above 7k rpm, it just sounds good.

FastAndLight

I agree about the sound change, though I have Zards and an open intake on my S2R1k, so it is a different sonic experience to begin with.

I hit the redline like its going out of style, that sound is too addicting.

Hey, my S4 doesn't have a redline marked on the tach, and I've never hit a rev limiter on it either (never been above 10,000).    What is the recommended max for a Desmo 4 valve engine?  I suppose valve float isn't an issue.  Any ideas? That little sucker just keeps pulling and pulling.
