High Pitch "Ping" - Diagnostic Help?

Getting a high pitched ping in the motor...almost like a small bell.  This started after I changed out the clutch line from the handle bars.  Clutch is engaging pretty smoothly (although still jumps a bit when kicked into first).  I have not checked valves yet (10k miles right now).  Changed gas type (both location and octane).  So I suppose the question is...should I start with the clutch or is the high-pitched bell-like pinging a direct symptom of the valves needing to be shimmed?  Thanks for your help!

It is a bit worse when cold, but the only noticeable difference is at low RPMs...when it is revving it either goes away or the pipes are drowning out the sound!

I had a 750 SS that sounded like it was beating itself to death.

I'll bet you're losing the hockey pucks in between the cylinder fins.

The noise I believe you're hearing is called fin ring.

"Changed gas type (both location and octane)"????  Are you using a low octane of fuel...if soit is probably engine ping.  Change to a higher octane ie 95 or better

Will it cause any problems?, the hockey pucks from my 620 falling off one at a time.
