old subject sorry, but not clear to me OIL!

ok, I realize this may be an old, beaten topic but here goes:

My 06 M620 has 10k miles on it. She's due for an oil change and I'd like
to switch to Synthetic. I'm leaving  in 2 weeks from MN for the Black HIlls,
Wyoming, then down to Colorado. About a 10 day trip. I want to avoid any
issues, so I'm not sure about switching to syn at this point.

stop worrying, put some Mobil 1 10W 40 synthetic motorcycle oil in there, and change the filter, pull out the screen and check/clean it.

replace the crush washer on the sump plug (get one when you get your filter).

You shouldn't have any issues with an oil change - unless I am not understanding your concerns.

nope, you understood!  I think I'm gonna go with synthetic. I'll just watch for any
puddles. thanks!

Ok this was really weird for me to read, because you are doing pretty much exactly what I just did like 2 weeks ago (well got back from 2 weeks ago). I live in fargo.  So are trailering them there? and where at? We dropped everything off in Spearfish and rode through from there.  All the riding was awesome on our trip.  A few tips though stay off interstate (so boring) we took hwy 85 through WY which was a real pleasant ride considering it was totally straight with no turns.  Good luck and I hope you had as nice of weather as we had.  If you have any questions or need some tips about roads or places to stay (we camped the whole time) pm me. My '05 620 was supposed to have synthetic in it from Day One. It's certainly had Klotz in since its 600 mile service.

If you're the sort of person who believes in doing what the manual says, "SHELL Advance Ultra 4" (which is specified in the manual and on the sticker on the crankcase, even though it's not available in the US) is a fully-synthetic oil, so you (and the selling dealer) should use an equivalent oil available here.

If the specifications have been followed in the first place, there should be no "switch" involved in using synthetic oil since that's what should have been used at each oil change and for the initial fill.
