That chart is completely off.  We have 2 small dogs and we probably spend $100 on food every month.  The wife gets the organic, hypo-allergic food made with salmon.  I swear the dogs eat better than I do.  Not to mention all the bully sticks, treats, toys, greenies, etc that we buy for them.

I guess when we have kids, the dogs will go back to being dogs...

UPDATE: And don't get me started on the vet bills...  One of my dog has allergy.

i have had 2 ferrets, 3 rottweilers and a mutt dog. assuming the rabbit is similar to the ferrets, thats probably a little high per animal. same goes for the mutt dog. he was a pain in the ass, but relatively inexpensive.

the rotties on the other hand..... my first two both blew away that cost schedule within their first 3 years of life (3 knee and 1 elbow surgery cumulative)

I don't have any of those animals so I voted you're a douche!

Pretty shocking to realize the life-cycle costs of our current two cats & two dogs, not to mention the fact that they're only the latest in a long line of canine & feline freeloaders. At least the four chickens are about to start laying and might begin pulling their own weight around here.

[laugh] [laugh] [laugh]  Nope, I can confirm Bun-Bun is not a hippy.  Not anymore at least.   [laugh] [laugh] [laugh]

Took me a while to figure out the chart, the annual dog expenses should be monthly and then it is just about right. [roll]

2 Bulldogges and 2 cats. I try not to think about the cost just which one will take up the most bed tonight.

Doesn't the EU frown on keeping Poles as pets?

I have no idea how much we spend on the cats, or on the chickens for that matter (I'm pretty sure each egg we get ends up costing over a buck, though).

I don't keep track of what it's costing to raise my son.

I sure as heck don't keep track of what the Monsters cost. (They're pets, right?)

None of these things confer any economic benefit so there's no return on investment to compute. If it gets to the point that I can't afford the critters or the bikes that will surely be evident and I'll get rid of them. Who knows? The gypsies might even want to buy a sullen 14 year-old. Until then it really doesn't matter how much they cost.

That said, to me pets are pets. I'm quite fond of them, but they're not "mini-kids." I'd toss any of them into a volcano in a heartbeat if doing so would help my wife or son. We get good veterinary care for the critters, feed them good food, but don't hire them cat strippers or build palatial chicken condos. The cats have more fun playing with a moth or a paper bag than with "cat toys" and the only thing the chickens care about is bugs.

I have two mutts and I think the food and treats is maybe a bit low but the rest is high.  Certainly because of my Heinz 57 dogs and their lack of inherited health problems.  It pairs up nicely with their $75 adoption fee.

I don't have one of these but I hear they're expensive.  I do have a nice kitchen to keep one in, though.  ;D
