I need to set the rear sag on my M696.  I know how to adjust the rear shock for preload, but I'm having a difficult time finding a number to shoot for.  I searched the forums and was able to find one reference to 1.25 inches of sag, presumably with rider (wasn't clear in the post).  Does this sound correct?  I'm 195lbs, in case anyone is wondering.

Thanks!   [thumbsup]

On my S2R there is 1.5" so 1.25 doesn't sound wrong. I'm no expert though. Definitely with rider, yes. In a normal riding position. You have probably heard, but at 195 (plus gear?) you're outside the Ducati +/- range which starts at about 155.
Once adjusted/preloaded the spring action range will be quite short. New spring might be in order?
When you adjust make sure the rebound is set accordingly (don't ask me how many clicks, but it will be close to max)

I have heard that I might be a bit heavy for the stock shock, which is a bummer.  So, I suppose I should either start hitting the gym more, or find a stiffer rear spring.   ;D  Any suggestions on a supplier for stiffer rear springs?  Google isn't my friend today...  :(

Set static sag with preload.  Then check sag with you on the bike.  Too much sag?  You need a heavier spring.

I'm in Europe, so I wouldn't know where to point...

Wait a few minutes - someone else will help [thumbsup]

(The gym and a healthy diet are always sound advice, but it might not be your fault that you're larger than the average Italian rider, so a new spring might be easier and less expensive :D)

Thanks for the replies.  I found a pretty good description of how to check/set sag here:

Does anyone have anything to add to the linked article?  Also, to use the article's nomenclature, does anyone have the "L1" measurement for a 696 to a point on the frame that is reproducable?

Thanks much!
