anyone ever cut these things off? They break when your bike goes down. mine are already screwed anyway.... Just need to find a way to keep the controls from hitting my tank...

I was reading one ECS' website and they did it to a track bike 848.

Steering stops are the only thing that keep the controls from hitting the tank. I would go to a welding shop and have them repaired or replaced.

Or, cut them off and place a rubber patch on the tank?

better them than a tank or the frame

So how about next time you've got your triples out, you cut off the sheet metal stops and weld in something beefier?

I mean, with the Tera Patrick-like frequency with which your bike goes down, it might not be a bad idea.

But if you take a serious spill, they'll put extra pressure on your frame right at the headstock, which is already a weak point.

Thought it was funny for a different reason.  "Yeah, the bike went down" sounds so much better than, "Yeah, I crashed again."  My friend always lamented the lack of reflexive verbs in English compared to Spanish.  "La ventana se rompie" - "The window broke itself."  What 8 year old with a baseball can't appreciate that?
